Cycling: Elizabeth Deignan has won the first edition of Paris – Roubaix for women. With her mega solo she didn't give the competition the slightest chance.
Elizabeth Deignan becomes the first woman to win Paris – Roubaix
When the women got on their bikes in Denain today and set out on the 116,4km journey to Roubaix, they made history. A new story, because finally - 125 years after the first men's edition - the mother of all classics is also available for women. 17 sectors with a total of 29,2 kilometers of cobblestones awaited the pros. But the eventual winner got up and away before the first pavé section. Elizabeth Deignan (Trek – Segafredo) set her attack well in front of the target. From then on, the Briton was on the road as a soloist and yet she sped down the bumpy cobblestones completely unimpressed. In the Roubaix velodrome, she was able to complete her lap of honor while her competitors were still fighting for places behind.
Brennauer & Koch in the top 10
The podium of Paris – Roubaix complete the Dutch Marianne Vos (Jumbo – Visma) and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek – Segafredo). But the Germans also made a strong showing. Lisa Brennauer (Ceratizit – WNT) just barely missed the podium in fourth place. Franziska Koch (DSM) was seventh.
