Cycling: Stage XNUMX of the Absa Cape Epic goes to Jordan Sarrou and Matthew Beers. The French-South African duo can thus extend their lead in the general classification.
The overall ranking is taking shape
Jordan Sarrou and Matthew Beers have now also won the second stage of the Absa Cape Epic after the prologue. The Frenchman and the South African from Team 91-Songo-Specialized finished 26,1 seconds ahead of the German Andrew Seewald and the Czech Martin Stosek to the goal. The two from the Canyon Northwave MTB team are still 2:13,9 minutes behind in the overall standings and are their closest rivals. The two Bulls teams, consisting of Urs Huber / Simon Schneller and Martin Frey / Simon Stiebjahn reached the finish this time as third and sixth of the day. 1:46,5 and 3:35,0 minutes were missing from first place. In the overall standings they are now lurking in third and fourth place. With 4:04,5 and 5:43,3 minutes behind the leaders, they remain within striking distance. Finally, there are still a few stages to be completed.
Platt / Lakata have to retire
There is also bad news for the Bulls team from the legends category. Because the previously sovereign leaders Karl Platt and Alban Lakata had to give up the race today. According to initial reports, the German is suffering from stomach problems.
Frei/Stigger continue to extend their lead
There is nothing new for the women. The Swiss-Austrian duo Sina Free and Laura Stigger from Team 91-Songo-Specialized also won the second stage of the Absa Cape Epic. The two are thus further expanding their lead. In the overall standings they are now more than seven and a half minutes ahead Ariane Lüthi from Switzerland and Robyn De Groot from South Africa.
