Cape Epic Prologue: Sarrou & Beers are unstoppable at the start

17 October 2021 by Michael Behringer

Cape Epic Prologue

Cycling: South Africa's Matthew Beers and France's Jordan Sarrou have won the prologue of the 2021 Absa Cape Epic. A Swiss and a German drove in second and third place.

Sarrou / Beers dominate at the start

The local fans can be happy. With Matthew Beers a South African stands on the podium right at the start of the Absa Cape Epic 2021. Together with his colleague Jordan Sarrou from France he dominated the prologue. The duo of the NinetyOne-songo-Specialized team was a whopping 1:39,9 minutes faster than the runners-up Filippo Viero Colombo from Switzerland and Yuri Zanotti from Italy pedaling for the BMC – KTM team. The German complete the podium Andrew Seewald and the Czech Martin Stosek by Team Canyon Northwave MT.

Bulls puts himself in wait

Two duos from the Bulls team only just missed out on the podium. The Germans Martin Frey and Simon Stiebjahn placed in 5th place. The Swiss are only one place behind in the list of results Urs Huber and the German Simon Schneller. At 2:11,7 and 2:23,7 minutes behind the winners, they remain within striking distance. The German achieved the best result in the Masters category Karl Platt with his partner Alban Lakata from Austria. They live up to their team name, Bulls Legends. And even the fastest women speak German – albeit with a dialect. Sina Free from Switzerland and Laura Stigger from Austria were over a minute and a half faster than the competition.
