Litelok Core: High-security lock goes on sale after Kickstarter campaign

18 October 2021 by Andrew Waldera

Litelok Core

Product news: After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Litelok Core high-security lock will be available from mid-November. The bike lock has been accredited by the independent certification groups Sold Secure and ART and is up to 50% lighter than comparable models.

Litelok Core

The new Core lock is already the third product from the bicycle lock manufacturer Litelok that was financed from a Kickstarter campaign. Based in Wales, the company is made up of riders who share a passion for bike and motorcycle protection. All locks are designed and hand built in the UK. In mid-November the latest litter from the Brits will be on the market.

The Litelok Core is based on the two key components Boaflexicore Plus and an inline lock body made of hardened steel. The Boaflexicore Plus is a 24 millimeter thick, flexible safety strap. From the outside in, the braided sleeve provides abrasion resistance. Next comes a plant-based bonded polymer as the first line of defense. The material offers corrosion and weather resistance at the same time. In the third layer, 19 millimeters of interlocking, hardened steel exoskeleton links absorb the energy of an attack while encasing the high-strength steel core.

The interior of the hardened steel inline lock consists of an innovative stainless steel structure that is designed to withstand attacks from freezing spray (-40 °C) or hammer and chisel blows. The heart of the product is a burglar-proof disc lock that, according to the manufacturer, has been tested for 5.000 opening and closing cycles. The Boaflexicore Plus is connected to the lock body with four marine grade stainless steel rivets to resist drilling and torsional attacks.

The Litelok Core has been awarded the Sold Secure Diamond Bicycle and Sold Secure Motorcycle Gold Ratings. The bicycle end was designed in such a way that it should not only withstand attacks, but also ensure easy handling. Cyclists can wear the Litelok Core around their waist, attach it to the frame or stow it in their backpack. A simple built-in click-to-lock system allows for quick and easy locking, with the key only needed to open the lock. Manufactured in Wales, the locks are available in three colors and two lengths, with prices starting at €149,99.
