SKS Mudrocker: Generous mudguards for the wet season

13 December 2021 by Patrick Storm

SKS has been producing bicycle accessories made in Germany for 100 years. Of course, no accessories for the wet season should be missing in the Sauerland range. We therefore introduce you to two of the new fenders.

In the cold and wet season, the cycle paths and trails are very different. Puddles and mud holes ensure that we regularly get wet and the dirt flies around our ears. The so-called mudrocker from SKS is supposed to remedy this. With the Mudrocker Rear and Front models, we have two mudguards with high compatibility and extensions that are quite interesting thanks to their features.

Mudrocker Rear:

The SKS mudguard is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic with a black, matt-glossy finish. This can be easily attached to the seat stays thanks to the rubberized Velcro straps. The soft plastic padding between the mudguard and struts is also well solved. This not only prevents damage to the frame, but also keeps the mudrocker in place. The soft pad can be used in two different positions and allows us to find a suitable distance to the tire. The good thing about this mounting method is also that we don't need to mount it to the seat post like on outdated models. This makes the mudrocker particularly interesting for mountain bikers with dropper posts.

As you can see from the clean seat post, nothing splashes up during the ride.

The mudrocker comes with two attachments. These expand the mudguard and connect to the frame in an elegant way. The extension for the bottom bracket area is deep and prevents dirt and mud from penetrating the bearings and joints. However, this does not fit every rear triangle.

In terms of price, the SKS Mudrocker is really very interesting. The mudguard can be installed on almost any frame, fits 650B, 28″ and 29″ tires with a width of up to 3,0″ and covers the entire rear wheel with its length of 840mm. For 34,99 Euros so you get a lot on offer. Of course you have to like the look. However, if you want to keep your back reasonably dry, you should take a closer look at the SKS Mudrocker Rear.

Mud rocker front

Anyone who spends a lot of time on trails and muddy forest paths knows how often dirt gets in your face and eyes. Even small mudguards help, but they also have their limits. The SKS Mudrocker Front is a whole lot longer and still looks very good on the bike.

The mudguard for the front is made of impact-resistant plastic and is particularly impressive thanks to its mounting options. The mudrocker can not only be attached with cable ties or the supplied rubberized Velcro straps, but thanks to the adapter it can be screwed directly to the fork. To do this, you simply have to follow the instructions, mount the adapter correctly and then integrate it into the fork in an elegant way. Although SKS states in this manual that their Mudrocker adapter is compatible with Rockshox forks, we could not find a suitable screw in the scope of delivery to attach it to our Zeb. Nevertheless, the solution with the versatile multiple adapter makes sense. Could also have been the fork. We then simply used the included Velcro straps. These have held up at least as well, but do not integrate quite as nicely as the adapter.

We also liked the processing. Details such as rubberized pads at the contact points of the mudguard in the area of the immersion tube unit are also nice. The many cut-outs also make it possible to mount it on a wide variety of forks, which we like very much and is to be expected from a mudguard.

The SKS Murocker Front is for about 25,00 Euro .
