Sur//real MTB video: How Corona changes a city

6 December 2021 by Andrew Waldera

MTB News: London is one of the most energetic and vibrant cities in the world. This is where cultures meet lifestyle, trends are born and visions are lived. A metropolis that pulsates – and this is also evident when looking at the traffic. Corona put an abrupt end to the busy hustle and bustle during the first lockdown in 2020. The MTB video Sur//real by London mountain biker and freestyle wheelie artist Jake100 shows how much the city has changed during this time.

"While it's cool to look back on that time and project, I hope I never have to see London like that again." - Jake100 - Surreal

The must-see yet depressing video was filmed by Jake2020 and Send It Brad over a four-week period during the first lockdown in London in 100, in accordance with and in strict compliance with all rules in force at the time. Sur//real accompanies the London mountain biker on his spectacular tour through the deserted streets of his hometown. Famous tourist attractions appear in a whole new light. Where once thousands of tourists fought for the best perspective for photos of sights, there is suddenly not a soul to be seen.

“When lockdown first started here in England I knew straight away how I was going to use the time I was allowed to spend away from home every day. Namely with what I love most - biking. When I first went out at night, I couldn't believe what I saw. I was in London, the buildings were there, the lights were on, but the people were missing. All people. London was dead. It was absolutely surreal.” said Jake100. “I knew right away that I had to document it somehow. But how? I didn't want to add to the worsening of the situation, so I knew this had to be a two-man, remote project. So I sketched the idea, called a friend of mine who is a gifted filmmaker, Brad, and then we came up with a rough plan. The two hours a day we were allowed to be outside, we spent every night for the next four weeks on the deserted streets of London.”
