MTB News: The drive specialist maxon, known for its Mars motors, and the Swiss bicycle manufacturer Thömus are entering into a partnership in cross-country cycling. Thömus would like to develop an e-mountain bike for World Cup training based on the maxon e-bike platform. This e-bike should also be available in stores later.
With the partnership, maxon underscores its claim to become the market leader for lightweight and efficient e-bike drives. The e-mountain bike developed by Thömus is equipped with the lightweight maxon BIKEDRIVE AIR e-bike system. The drive, including the battery, weighs only 3,5 kilograms and can be integrated almost invisibly into the bicycle frame. Eugen Elmiger, CEO of the maxon Group, explains: “We are putting Swiss technology at the core of the partnership and want to promote cross-functional cooperation between World Cup riders and development teams on both sides. This allows us to further optimize our e-bike drives and make the know-how available to all customers.”
The Thömus maxon team is led by Mathias Flückiger, overall World Cup winner 2021 and Olympic silver medalist. In addition to the sporting goals, "the best and lightest XC-E-MTB for World Cup training" should also be built. "The new possibilities with the XC e-mountain bike and the light maxon drive will become an integral part of our training and help us to prepare even better for racing," says team manager Ralph Näf. The electrified World Cup training should create optimal conditions for racing. Thanks to e-support, the athletes can train more on the track and at the same time stay within their optimal heart rate and performance range.
The e-mountain bike, which was specially developed for World Cup training, is not only reserved for professionals. As announced, the E-MTB will also be available in stores at a later date. When this will be exactly remains to be seen.
