The new Cannondale Synapse: Smart endurance racer for more safety!

18 January 2022 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the new Cannondale Synapse, the US manufacturer is not only providing an optical update for one of its most popular models, but also has a lot of innovations in store from a technical point of view. Especially the sThe above-mentioned "Smart Sense" system is intended to provide more security and is now installed as standard on all Synapse models. Behind it are, among other things, bicycle lights for better visibility and a warning radar.

The Cannondale Synapse has been one of the US manufacturer's most popular bikes for more than 10 years. No wonder, because it is one of the particularly comfortable endurance racing bikes and has always offered a successful mixture of performance-oriented racing bike feeling and relaxed comfort.

The new model remains basically true to this path, but also comes with some innovations. The frame is said to have been made significantly more comfortable, which is made possible by 8% more damping of the rear frame triangle with the flat chainstays and seat tube. At the same time, the new Synapse should offer slight aerodynamic advantages, since the tube shapes from the high-end racer Super Six Evo were inspired. With more eyelets and tire clearance of up to 35 mm, the suitability for everyday use and versatility of the Synapse is once again significantly increased, because in addition to the usual two bottles in the frame, a bag can be attached to the top tube and a third bracket to the down tube. Fender mounting is also taken care of. Another important point is that the issue of safety has also been taken into account with this model.

The SmartSense system consists of the following components:

  • Different radar: Scans traffic and can display speed, distance and number of vehicles via sounds and display on bike computers or the app
  • Lezyne light: Approved front and rear light with optional brake warning function.
  • Garmin Varia battery: Battery integrated into the frame, which can also be used as a USB-C charging source.
  • Cannondale Wheel Sensor: Activates the Cannondale app and SmartSense system when the front wheel moves
