City E-Bikes 2022: These are your favourites
As functional everyday companions, city e-bikes have a somewhat difficult time of it despite their great popularity and are considered "unsexy"; Our top 3 show that the truth is far from that and that even supposedly less exciting bikes can inspire technically and visually. We particularly like the pragmatic approach of the two top-ranked bikes from Flyer and Pegasus. For around 3.000 euros, there is a technically absolutely high-quality overall package with great components for everyday use and a coherent overall concept. The Bergamont E-Ville in 2022rd place shows how exciting city bikes 3 can be from a technical point of view with its luggage rack, which is designed as part of the frame, powerful motor and long-travel air suspension fork.
The Gotour from the Swiss e-bike specialist impresses with its solid construction and straight-line design – as a step-through model as well as with a diamond frame. In its cheapest version, it comes across as quite sporty with a nine-speed derailleur; with Bosch Active Line Plus, it is primarily designed as an everyday and touring bike. The 500 Wh battery is discreetly hidden in the frame, and the luggage rack is elegantly attached to the mudguard. Suspension components and an upright sitting position ensure comfort; bright LED light, disc brakes and a frame lock offer security.

With the Pegasus Premio, you don't have to do without anything, and the discreet step-through frame with frame battery is quite inexpensive. The Cologne-based provider assembles the current Bosch Performance Line, which pushes powerfully, plus there is the e-bike-specific five-speed hub gear from Shimano - and both are even coupled with a low-maintenance toothed belt. With hydraulic rim brakes plus coaster brake, the touring bike can be safely decelerated in any situation, and with an adjustable stem and bright LED lighting, it is all-round comfortable and safe.

Compact E-Bikes 2022: These are your favourites
Compact e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular, especially in urban areas; this is also reflected in the ever-increasing selection in this area. It was barely five years ago that this category was firmly in the hands of only a few manufacturers, today almost every major manufacturer has at least one such bike in their portfolio. However, a bike from a real compact veteran made it to first place – i:SY! The concept of the E1 ZR F has been tried and tested for a long time and is as simple as it is ingenious. A rigid frame made of aluminum, high-quality add-on parts including a belt drive and a harmonious Performance Line motor - great! Flyer's Upstreet5 takes a similar course in second place, while the Hercules Rob Fold in third place even comes with a folding mechanism. Super interesting not only for camping friends.
The i:SY, available in many colors, is the archetype of the compact e-bike with 20-inch wheels. With height-adjustable folding handlebars and a strut above the bottom bracket that acts as a carrying handle, it is extremely practical and also has a handy and safe handling. The E5 ZR F comes with the five-speed gear hub from Shimano optimized for e-bikes, which is connected to the motor via a toothed belt, and the high-torque Bosch Performance Line with a 500 Wh battery. You don't need more e-bikes for everyday use; no wonder that the i:SY is so popular.

The Flyer Upstreet looks angular and straight - a functional means of transport in everyday life that, despite all its practicality, offers a lot of driving pleasure. Urban E-Bikes 2022: These are your favourites
Urban bikes have long since established themselves as stylish, sporty offshoots of city bikes and this is unlikely to change in the future. The winner in this category among our readers was the Bulls Sturmvogel EVO, which also received the most votes in the entire reader poll. Versatile, low-maintenance and technically convincing: We are certainly not surprised! It gets a whole lot sportier in second place with the Fastroad E+ from Giant, which with its flat tubular shapes and high-profile rims is almost reminiscent of a racing bike. The third-placed Ampler Stout should bring a smile to the faces of fans of minimalist e-bikes. Here you have to make a few compromises when it comes to engine performance and battery capacity, but the extremely stylish look and the weight of well under 2 kg speak for themselves.
The stylish Sturmvogel is quite comfortable thanks to its large-volume 27,5-inch tires and powerfully motorized with Brose Drive T Mag. The solid rear carrier and the front basket, which allows a lot of payload, are top in city traffic. The combination of a particularly robust five-speed gear hub and toothed belt is unbeatable, especially in view of the powerful engine: When starting off, you can shift up quickly, and the Gates CXD belt is practically maintenance-free and runs very smoothly. The color coordination of the components is pleasing, the seating position is balanced and comfortable.

The 27,5-inch wheels ensure easy steering, and with the 50-lux spotlight you are always safe and clearly visible on the discreetly elegant bolide. With the Stout, the manufacturer from Tallinn in Estonia delivers one of the most elegant and lightest electric bikes on the market. With a permanently mounted 336 Wh battery and hub motor, the slim bike can be moved quickly and easily; despite the rigid fork, it rolls extremely comfortably. And with a weight of a good 17 kilos, you can carry it into the basement or into the apartment just as easily as a conventional touring bike. Instead of a display, the bike is operated via an app; the two riding modes – 100% and 150% support – can also be switched using the start button on the down tube.
