Trekking bikes 2022: These are your favourites
For decades, trekking bikes have been the bread and butter bikes - the e-bike boom will not change that, even if the sales figures are not quite as high as they were 10-15 years ago. This is not surprising, after all, a trekking bike cuts an equally good figure on the way to the office, in everyday life or on a holiday tour, even if one or the other model has different priorities. Our choice of places 1 and 2 went to the KTM 1964 and the Cube Kathmandu SL, two very high-quality trekking bikes that find a good balance between the numerous possible areas of use, while the Diamant Villiger in third place tends much more in the direction of a touring bike.
The name of the Life 1964 is a reference to the founding year of the bicycle manufacturer at KTM and the bike underlines the years of experience that have resulted from this. The trekking bike, which is available in three frame shapes (diamond, trapeze and step-through), is based on a high-quality aluminum frame in the timeless KTM color mix. The equipment is high-quality and durable: This applies to the Shimano XT gears as well as to the lighting from Busch & Müller or the puncture-proof Schwalbe tires.
Price: € 1.599
For years, the Cube Kathmandu has been a hot tip for those looking for a well-equipped trekking bike at a fair price. The frame has been completely revised for 2022 - so there is finally a thru-axle in the rear! The rear carrier is still part of the frame and now integrates the in-house mudguards even more elegantly than before. Otherwise, everything remains the same: the top SL model offers complete Shimano XT equipment for less than 2000 euros and with the RockShox Paragon the currently best trekking suspension fork on the market.
Price: € 1.899
One or two older people might still be familiar with Villiger: In the 90s, the Swiss made high-quality trekking bikes and racing bikes - until the brand disappeared from the market in the early 2000s. With the Villiger model, Diamant is continuing the tradition of yesteryear: With a chic steel frame that is also ideal for adventurers and long-distance riders thanks to its large front carrier. Despite all the tradition, the equipment is modern: There is a 1×11 gear system from Shimano and hydraulic disc brakes.

Trekking E-Bikes 2022: These are your favourites
Trekking e-bikes are now a touch more versatile than regular trekking bikes. They cover a similar range, but are likely to be used primarily as everyday and excursion bikes. No wonder considering bikes like our readers' choice winner, the Premio EVO 10 Lite from Pegasus with Bosch Smart System with strong components including air suspension fork and three frame shapes from diamond to low step-through frame. The Flyer Goroc2 strikes a slightly different tone, which focuses a little more on the terrain, but still remains fully suitable for everyday use. Exciting: The bike equipped with the Panasonic GX Ultimate drive is also available as an S-Pedelec. The podium is completed by an old acquaintance: the Giant Explore E+ has proven itself for some time and should continue to enjoy great popularity in 2022.
As a sporty trekking bike at a fair price, the Pegasus Premio EVO 10 should find a lot of friends in the 2022 season. In terms of drive, the powerful Bosch Performance CX provides a lot of power and the customer can choose between 400, 500 or 625 Wh capacity for the battery - of course always elegantly stowed away in the down tube. The built-in components are robust and appropriate for the area of application: This applies to the Shimano Deore 10-speed drive as well as to the suspension fork with 75 mm spring travel and the puncture-proof tires from Schwalbe.
Price: from € 3.449

The Goroc2 from Flyer walks the line between a classic MTB hardtail and a trekking bike. The Confederates put together a technically high-quality package through and through: On the drive side, with the 90 Nm powerful Panasonic GX Ultimate motor and 750 Wh battery, you don't let anything burn and you don't have to make any painful compromises with the components either. As one of the few current bikes, it is also available as an S-Pedelec.
Price: from € 5.099
A good e-trekking bike doesn't have to cost a fortune - Giant shows that with the current Explore E+ 1 series. The in-house SyncDrive drive with Yamaha motor brings a good 70 Nm to the ground, the battery in the down tube has a capacity of 625 Wh. When it comes to equipment, durable components such as the Shimano Deore circuit are deliberately used, but in practice they are by no means superior to the more expensive product series must hide. Praiseworthy: The high permissible total weight of 156 kg, with which nothing stands in the way of adventures with a fully loaded bike.

SUV E-Bikes 2022: These are your favorites
Still ridiculed a few years ago, it is now clear that SUV e-bikes are not a passing phenomenon. The E-MTB-Trekking-City-Hybrids bridge the gap between different types of e-bikes and feel at home in a variety of different areas of use. The trend here is clearly towards full-suspension models, so it's not surprising that all three of our readers' favorite bikes are equipped with rear suspension. The front runner in this category, the Flyer Goroc X should primarily appeal to fans of range. The bike, which is equipped with 140 mm spring travel, can provide the Pansonic motor with a battery capacity of up to 1.170 Wh with the additional battery installed – crazy! The 750 Wh of the second-placed Scott Axis eRIDE are also not to be scoffed at, which power the motor of the Bosch Smart System. The highlight of the new bike is certainly the damper integrated into the frame.
Reach, reach, reach! The powerful Panasonic GX Ultimate motor on the Goroc X is powered by the integrated 630 Wh battery. With an additional battery on the down tube, however, the total capacity can be increased to a remarkable 1.170 Wh. The Goroc X is full suspension and built for every use; With 140 mm of spring travel at the front and rear, it absorbs even the biggest bumps in the terrain. The crossover e-bike from Switzerland is also equipped with a luggage rack.
Price: from € 5.199
Fully rethought? The new Axis eRIDE Evo Tour FS can only be identified as a full-suspension e-bike at second glance - the shock is fully integrated in the top tube. The innovative construction offers ample 140 mm of travel, which goes well with the sporty geometry of the chic Bosch bike. The CX motor is powered by the new 750 Wh battery, with which even the longest tours without a charging break are no longer a problem. We like the well thought-out equipment, for example with the low-wear Shimano Linkglide gears - we only miss a retractable seat post.
Price: € 6.299
