Cycling: who would have thought? Fausto Masnada lost his red jersey at the Tour of Oman after all. On the penultimate stage, Jan Hirt climbed up the Green Mountain as if unleashed to win the stage – and into the red jersey.
Hirt faces sovereign overall victory
As every year, Green Mountain was the executioner of the tour at the Tour of Oman. Jan Hirt (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert Matériaux) defeated the giant with a clear lead first. The two French finish 39 and 48 seconds behind the Czech respectively Kevin Vauquelin (Arkéa – Samsic) and Elie Gesbert (Arkéa – Samsic) the goal. The overall leader Fausto Masnada (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) even loses 1:48 minutes - and with it the position in the sun. Tomorrow there will probably be a bunch sprint on the way to Matrah Corniche. A change in the overall standings is therefore no longer expected on the final stage.
