The assona mobility protection: This is how roadside assistance for bikes works

March 2, 2022 by Caspar Gebel

assona mobility protection: Always being able to rely on help with technical problems is a nice feeling – especially when touring and traveling with an e-bike. Here we explain exactly how you can imagine breakdown assistance for your bike.

Tours and trips by e-bike are very popular. With electrical support, not only long daily stages are possible; kilometers of inclines and difficult terrain lose their terror. And so cycle tourism has benefited greatly from the e-bike boom of recent years.

Where more technology is involved, defects can of course occur more often. And where there is more riding, there are of course also people on the bike who have no expert knowledge of bike technology and repairs. Apart from the fact that many defects can only be repaired with special tools that hardly anyone has with them on the tour.

And now? Anyone who buys an e-bike with the ulterior motive of going on tour with it - be it for several days with luggage on the e-trekking bike, be it a long day tour off-road with the e-MTB - should consider take out e-bike insurance with a mobility protection package when you buy it. On the one hand, you are well protected against theft and robbery in everyday life, as well as against wear and tear and accidental damage as well as typical e-bike malaise such as loss of battery capacity or problems with the electrical system. On the other hand, you can always rely on quick roadside assistance for your bike if you get stuck.

One company that includes a mobility protection package as standard with their e-bike insurance is asson. The specialist insurer has streamlined its program so that it is now fairly clear for e-bikers. If you book the complete package from the assona brand BikeProtect for your new e-bike, you now get protection in all situations – including a mobility guarantee. Owners of speed pedelecs and e-scooters who opt for assona insurance also receive comparable benefits.

How roadside assistance works? A call to assona's 24-hour service hotline is all it takes to set a well-oiled train of wheels in motion: the local breakdown service is there to help stranded e-bikers. Ideally, he can fix the defect on site. If it is a major e-bike breakdown, the bike will be towed away - depending on the case to the nearest workshop or to the insured person's place of residence. Incidentally, in most cases, broken tires mean that you have to take a break, as the assona statistics show. But e-bikes are also repeatedly paralyzed by broken chains and failed drives.

The mobility guarantee is also responsible for comparatively harmless defects such as a flat tire.
Powerful engine, strong legs: When this combination overwhelms the chain, expert help is required.

Anyone who is further away from home or even abroad - the insurance cover is valid throughout Europe - is overtaken by the breakdown devil can claim accommodation costs and even emergency cash; if necessary, the defective bike will be transported home or disposed of professionally. All in all, assona offers a package that covers pretty much every eventuality – as you know it from the car. The breakdown service is used five times a day on average, although some dealers have to explicitly encourage their customers to take advantage of the practical insurance service. Which, by the way, encourages people to ride e-bikes just like theft and wear and tear insurance: the former takes away the fear of buying an expensive electric bike, the latter motivates you to use it intensively - and the mobility protection will perhaps give some people the security to dare to go on long tours with the e-bike.

If you have a mobility guarantee, you can travel carefree.

And how much does it all cost? assona offers mobility protection as part of the extensive BikeProtect insurance package, which, as already mentioned, covers what can go wrong when riding an e-bike with theft and damage insurance including coverage for wear and tear and accident damage. As usual, the premium is based on the value of the vehicle: In order to insure an e-bike for 3.000 euros for three years, a one-time premium of 299 euros is due – i.e. just a good eight euros per month. So you don't have to think too much if a bike dealer tells you about the BikeProtect insurance when you buy a bike. Especially not when you think of the good feeling of always being protected, even when touring and traveling.
