Cycling: Dylan Teuns has won the Flèche Wallonne for the first time. The Belgian prevailed surprisingly confidently ahead of series winner Alejandro Valverde. The Italian Marta Cavalli triumphed in the women's category.
Teuns starts early and doesn't let anyone pass
Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) has won Flèche Wallonne five times, Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) three. But today, the Spaniard and the Frenchman met their match in Dylan Teuns (Bahrain – Victorious). The Belgian attacked early on the Mur de Huy after 202,1 kilometers and, to the surprise of many, never let up. First, Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE) lost his wheel, then Alejandro Valverde couldn't keep up either. Dylan Teuns thus celebrates the biggest success of his career after his two stage wins at the Tour de France. Behind him and Valverde, the Russian Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe) completes the podium. World champion Alaphilippe has to settle for fourth place, while Tour winner Pogacar only managed twelfth.

Cavalli forces van Vleuten to his knees
For the third time, Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) had to settle for second place at Flèche Wallonne. The Dutch rider was beaten in the uphill sprint after 133,4 kilometers by Italy's Marta Cavalli (FDJ Nouvelle – Aquitaine Futuroscope). She thus also succeeds Anna van der Breggen, who won seven times at the Mur de Huy but has not competed since the end of last season. The podium was completed by fellow Dutch rider Demi Vollering (SD – Worx). Germany's Liane Lippert (DSM) finished seventh, 33 seconds behind.
