Cycling: Dylan van Baarle sensationally won Paris – Roubaix. After the Dutchman finished second in the World Championships last year and was narrowly defeated a few weeks ago in the Tour of Flanders, he is now celebrating the greatest success of his career.
With van Baarle, the strongest driver won
Absolute world class! On an absolute cream day has Dylan van baarle (Ineos Grenadiers) fulfilled a lifelong dream. The Dutchman wins the queen of the classics with Paris – Roubaix and thus crowns himself king. At 11 a.m. the drivers started on this Easter Sunday in Compiègne. After 257,2 hard kilometers, very few of them should reach the finish in Roubaix. Because even though the weather was dry and pleasant this time - unlike last year - the hell of the north remains one thing: hell! And exactly in this knew himself Dylan van baarle today just perfect to fight back. His lead of well over a minute shows that it wasn't the happier driver who won today, but the actually best one. The Belgian complete the podium wout van aert (Jumbo - Visma). and the Swiss Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ).
Ineos Grenadiers appear dominant
Right from the start of the race things got really busy in the hell of the north. Early attacks - in the hope of still being among the front runners as a breakaway - were ridden. However, no small group could really break away, because behind them the Ineos Grenadiers team in particular ensured a consistently high pace. As a result, the British team caused several cracks in the peloton before the 31 passages on cobblestones actually started. The groups that had been blown off fought for almost three hours before they were actually able to restore it. The distanced drivers were also helped by flat tires Filippo Gana (Ineos Grenadiers), which had to be waited for twice. In addition, there was a relatively large fall in group one, so that the catch could no longer be prevented.
Mohoric several times on offense
After the large peloton had found itself again, the fight for the breakaway groups flared up again. But the favorites had already put their stamp on the race so intensively that they didn't want to give up the reins anymore. Matej Mohoric (Bahrain-Victorious), Tom Devriendt (Intermarché – Wanty Gobert), Casper Pederson (DSM) and David Ballerini (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) managed to get a lead of more than two minutes in this hot phase. Gradually – in the person of Ballerini, for example, due to a puncture – many of the breakaways returned to the main group. Only Mohoric and Devriendt were able to stay ahead longer. But after all, a flat tire should also stop the winner of Milan – Sanremo. Alone, the Belgian was now completely powerless. He was caught by the approaching group of favourites, which has since been reduced to just under ten men.
Lampaert crashes because of a spectator
Just a few kilometers after his breakdown and his recovery went Matej Mohoric again on the offensive. The Slovenian drew Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) and Dylan van baarle (Ineos Grenadiers) with him. Behind them, the companions mostly left their work behind Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin – Fenix) perform. But he has to realize a little later: Today it won't work! Because while yourself wout van aert (Jumbo – Visma), Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) and Jasper stuyven (Trek – Segaferdo), the Dutchman is resigned. His compatriot was completely different: Dylan van Baarle (Ineos Grenadiers) was able to free himself from his two companions and continuously expand his lead - to the finish line and the greatest success of his career. The race ended bitterly for Yves Lampaert. The Belgian fell about six kilometers from the finish line after being caught in the clapping hands of a spectator and losing control of his bike.

Elisa Longo Borghini wins the women's solo event
The 2nd edition of Paris-Roubaix Femmes has become Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek – Segafredo) not let it be taken. The Italian champion finally won sovereignly in the hell of the north. As a soloist, she was able to assert herself 23 seconds ahead of her competitors. The Belgian sprinted among the pursuers Lotte Kopeky (SD – Worx) in front of the Dutchwoman Lucinda Brand (Trek – Segafredo) in second place. The Swiss was an ungrateful fourth Elise Chabby (Canyon//SRAM), but who once again impressively demonstrated that she is to be reckoned with in the future.
