Tour de Romandie #4: Bora – hansgrohe celebrates double victory

Cycling: The German team Bora – hansgrohe has achieved a double victory at the Tour de Romandie. Sergio Higuita won stage four ahead of Aleksandr Vlasov.

Queen stage of the Tour de Romandie

As expected, a preliminary decision was made on today's fourth stage of the 75th Tour de Romandie. The 180-kilometer section from Aigle to Zinal took the pros to the Val d'Anniviers, an Alpine valley in the Swiss canton of Valais. That meant: It will be mountainous! A total of six climbs had to be completed. In Nax, at the Relais des Pontis and in Saint-Luc there were points for the first category, before a mountain in the second category awaited the riders at Ziettes d'en Bas. The peloton then raced downhill to the second sprint classification in Chippis, before finally going up again to the Relais des Pontis and via Grimentz to the finish in Zinal. A whopping 4.158 vertical meters were on the program. A real challenge - even for the self-proclaimed climbers. But the Bora – hansgrohe team seemed to have exactly the right tactics ready.

Higuita overtakes Vlasov

One Augusto Rubio (Movistar) almost won the fourth stage of the Tour de Romandie. The breakaway from Colombia was in the lead up to the 300 meter mark. But then the favorites raced up. Sergio Higuita (Bora – hansgrohe) actually pulled the sprint for Alexander Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe). But shortly before the finish line, the Colombian had even more power than his Russian teammate. So the victory went to Higuita - probably unintentionally - which of course cost Vlasov a few bonus seconds in the overall standings. The Australian continues to lead there Rohan Dennis (Jumbo - Visma). The Spaniard is 14 seconds behind him Juan Ayuso (UAE), who finished third today. Aleksandr Vlasov is third overall, 18 seconds back.

Aided by his great final kick, Sergio Higuita wins stage 4 of @TourDeRomandie in Zinal ahead of his teammate Vlasov (whom he didn't see) and Juan Ayuso. Great day for Bora, disappointing queen stage for cycling fans… #TDR2022
