The Black Forest want to score with a large range of models. They prove what they can do with the myvélo Himalaya Equipped, for example – a rock-solid E-SUB that stands out with its relatively low weight.
E-bikes can still be considered a fairly recent invention, and even though there are already several million of them on our roads, the market does not seem to be saturated yet. It is therefore not surprising that new suppliers keep appearing, either trying to fill niches in the market or starting with a complete range – or both. Myvélo is one such case: The company from the Black Forest, founded in 2018, offers unusually shaped e-cruisers with fat balloon tires on the one hand, and typical e-trekking bikes and e-MTBs on the other - not to mention the currently very popular e-SUBs.
E-SUB with solid technology
The Himalaya Equipped can also pass as a “Sport Utility Bike”. It is based on the E-MTB of the same name, but is “equipped”, i.e. fully equipped for everyday use – light, carrier and metal mudguards are on board; the side stand can also be found on the MTB. Of course, the drive system is also the same: Shimano EP8 with 500 Wh battery, a high-torque mid-motor for off-road use, which pushes with a high support factor and only limits above 27 km/h - practical if you want to cover longer distances quickly. The standard built-in battery is good for a range of almost 75 km on the flat; you can get a little further with the 200 Wh storage unit, which is available for a surcharge of 630 euros.
Air suspension fork and eleven-speed gearbox
The Himalaya Equipped also adopts the Suntour air suspension fork with 100 mm travel and locking lever on the handlebars from the E-MTB – the latter not absolutely necessary on the E-Bike. With the 2-speed gear shift, myvélo has opted for a somewhat simpler variant for the Equipped (SLX instead of XT as with the E-MTB), but the all-rounder scores with a comfortable Suntour parallelogram support. The Himalaya is also available with Shimano Nexus DiXNUMX, which means that the Shimano gears and drive are perfectly matched. The side stand mounted right behind the bottom bracket is not ideal – bicycles stand more securely on a rear stand, especially when loaded.
Simple framework concept
The frame of the Himalayas produced in the Black Forest is kept quite simple. The manufacturer saves the constructive effort of an integrated battery; after all, the power storage can be removed so easily. Cables and lines run through the down tube, front and rear wheels are fastened with contemporary thru-axles. Because of the battery, a bottle cage cannot be attached to the down tube, but it can be attached to the seat tube.
Solid and well equipped
At 4.099 euros in the version with a 500 Wh battery, the Himalaya is not necessarily cheap, but at 24 kilos it is quite light. The blue anodized metal mudguards are striking - this makes the myvélo a bike that is not so easily overlooked.
