Test: Sena started developing communication systems for motorcycles in 2010. Since then, the company has offered innovative technological solutions for motorcycle fans and has established itself as a leading provider in this field. The transition from motorcycling to bicycle communication was obvious and Sena has also made a name for itself in the bicycle scene in a very short time. The manufacturer wants to convince with innovative and intelligent bicycle helmets for all areas. We took a closer look at the Sena helmets and show you what the helmets have to offer.
The Sena bicycle helmets with connectivity features should make it possible to connect and chat with up to 4 riders within a radius of 900 meters thanks to Bluetooth intercom technology. When connecting with just one other rider, users even experience HD intercom quality. The audio is transmitted via integrated loudspeakers that are located directly above the ears, so that ambient noise such as traffic can still be heard. A clear advantage in terms of safety compared to headphones. To ensure clear voice pickup and transmission, a seamlessly integrated microphone with Sena's patented Advanced Noise Control technology is located on the front of the helmet.

In addition to connecting with other drivers, the smartphone can of course also be paired with the Sena helmets to listen to music or take calls. Thanks to the Sena Cycling App, setup was quick and the connections made promptly. The functions of the helmets can be controlled using the app, intercom groups can be created and the quick product instructions can be accessed on the go. Within the app you can also use the Smart Intercom Pairing function. Here you can simply scan a QR code to connect to the helmets of your companions. Thumbs up for the ease of use.

Specialized Chisel on test: It doesn't always have to be carbon!
Test: With the Epic, the US manufacturer has a MTB race model that cross-country fans love. With the new Specialized Chisel, an aluminum hardtail was brought out that would approach the epic and still represent an inexpensive alternative to the epic off-road racer. We also asked ourselves whether it always has to be carbon, because even in the racing bike sector […]
Like the helmets presented so far, the Sena M1 mountain bike helmet also has all the features, such as Bluetooth intercom, a microphone integrated in the helmet shell, integrated speakers, smartphone connectivity and three button controls directly on the helmet. The integrated LED rear light provides additional safety.
In addition to an extremely comfortable fit and appealing workmanship of the helmet, we found the Sena technology to be particularly helpful. It's hard to ride side by side, especially on the trails, and you often have to shout out loud to guide your colleague properly. Thanks to Sena technology, we were always in touch, could exchange ideas easily and were always able to understand everything straight away. This is not least due to the interaction of the loudspeakers built into the helmet, which are located directly above the ears, and the integrated microphone with Sena's patented Advanced Noise Control technology, which effectively reduces unwanted wind noise. The Sena M1 thus offers a hands-free experience without using the mobile network or the data volume of the mobile phone.
If you are traveling alone, it is advisable to connect the helmet using an app. Because if you connect your smartphone to the helmet via Bluetooth, you also have the option of receiving GPS announcements, following the instructions from the fitness apps, making phone calls or simply listening to music.
After so many technical features, of course we want to briefly go into the actual functions of the helmet. As already mentioned, the fit can be adjusted individually. In addition, the Sena M1 helmets in sizes M and L are available in three different colors: matte black, matte white and cement gray. In addition, numerous ventilation openings contribute to more comfort, as they allow effective air circulation.
The recently announced partnership with the WorldTour professional team DSM shows that Sena continues to focus on cycling. We are excited to see what else is to come and how the connectivity features might soon find their way into professional cycling.
