BH Lynx Trail Carbon: New trail bike presented

30 May 2022 by Michael Faiss

Product news / MTB: The BH Lynx Trail Carbon positions itself as a sporty trail bike – with 150 mm spring travel, a super-light carbon frame and modern geometry.

With the Lynx Trail, the Spanish manufacturer BH is presenting the latest addition to the Lynx series that was established many years ago: This includes the full-suspension MTBs of the Basques and the Lynx Trail is – as the name suggests – primarily at home in somewhat more demanding terrain. It joins the sister model Lynx Race, which has its strengths above all in the XC and marathon areas. It's also reminiscent of that recently introduced iLynx Trail - just without a motor.

BH Lynx Trail Carbon

New frame - Very light with a powerful rear end

The basis of the BH Lynx Trail Carbon is a completely newly developed carbon frame that is used in all models. Despite the allegedly very high rigidity and robustness, it only weighs approx. 2,2 kg - a really impressive value. In the past, however, the Basques have shown time and again that they know how to build light yet stable bikes - in this respect we are also confident about the Lynx Trail Carbon. Unfortunately, we do not yet have weights for the complete wheels.

Appropriate for the area of use, the bike comes with 150 mm of spring travel at the front and rear and only uses 29-inch wheels. This should give you plenty of reserves even for demanding terrain, without having to sacrifice too much agility.

Cables and lines run from the headset completely inside the frame.

Proven split pivot rear triangle

As with almost all high-quality fullies from BH, the Split Pivot rear triangle is also used on the Lynx Trail Carbon. As a VPP rear triangle system, it can effectively decouple braking forces from the rear triangle and promises a sporty, taut chassis with a progressive characteristic curve that also offers enough support for active riders. At the same time, the high anti-squat ensures that the rear triangle hardens on the chain pull and thus seesaws are suppressed during the climb.

Lightweight frame, also in the color of your choice

The extremely light frame comes in all three equipment variants in three color variants - alternatively it can also be individually designed via the BH Unique program, according to the wishes of the future driver. In addition to the color itself, you can also choose whether the paint should be glossy or matt and there is also space for individual lettering. However, you have to plan an additional 300 euros for a unique design.

Trail all-rounder with modern geometry and Superboost

In view of the diverse range of uses of a modern trail bike, the "right" geometry is always an exciting tightrope walk. In the case of the BH Lynx Trail Carbon you get extremely modern dimensions with a long main frame, slack steering and steep seat angle. The bike should therefore play to its strengths primarily on the descent, without completely losing its suitability for touring. The chain stays, which are very short at less than 440 mm, are interesting; Despite the large tire clearance, they are made possible by the Superboost rear end, which relies on a 157 mm wide hub (instead of 148 mm with "Standard Boost"). The only drop of bitterness: In the event of a wheel change, you have to rely on the much less common special size.

models and trim levels

BH launches the new Lynx Trail in three model variants. What they all have in common is the high-quality, lightweight carbon frame. The price of the trail bike starts at 4.699 euros and is based on the Lynx Trail Carbon 9.0 model. Adequate to the price, you also get quite a high level of equipment with Fox Performance suspension, Shimano 12-speed gears, 4-piston brakes and Race Face wheels. At the other end of the spectrum, the Lynx Trail Carbon 9.9 has a “full chapel”: XTR components for the gears and brakes, Fox Factory suspension and carbon wheels – but the noble bike tears a considerable hole in your wallet at 8.099 euros. Our tip would therefore be the Lynx Trail Carbon 9.5, which is right in between at just under 6.000 euros. Here, too, you get Fox Factory forks and dampers, complete Shimano XT equipment and very good Race Face wheels.
