Product News / E-Bike: With the new Orbea Kemen, the market will be enriched by a versatile e-bike that is intended to impress as a slim and light everyday and touring bike. It is powered by a Shimano EP8 motor, which is supported by a 540 Wh battery. In the SUV version, the Spanish manufacturer has also given its new bike another shot of off-road capability.
Just a week ago, the Spaniards from Orbea presented a completely new E-MTB with the Urrun: As a slim hardtail with low weight, a sporty Shimano EP8 RS drive and a geometry that is definitely suitable for the trait, you can see it as the hardtail version of the Orbea Rise. Now the Basques follow suit; The Kemen is similar to the Urrun in many aspects, but has a completely different focus and clearly shifts the area of use towards touring and everyday life.

Kemen - Kemen SUV - Urrun: One platform, three bikes!
At first glance, the Kemen resembles the recently introduced Urrun in many ways. No wonder, because the platform, i.e. the frame, is largely unchanged. This also applies to the two different variants that Orbea offers for the Kemen - in addition to the "standard variant", there is also an SUV version that is much more suitable for off-road use without losing sight of its suitability for touring. The trapezoidal frame with a slightly lower step-through is exclusive to the Kemen and the Kemen SUV.
High quality aluminum frame
The aluminum frames from Orbea are probably among the most beautiful on the market - this applies to the Rise H, the Urrun and also the Kemen and Kemen SUV: Almost all welds are elegantly ground, the lines and shape are more reminiscent of carbon. Thanks to the triple butted tubes, the weight and rigidity are also right. The elegant look is also due to the slim down tube (despite the 540 Wh battery!), as well as the clever routing of cables and lines. Brake lines and the outer casing of the gears disappear on the stem inside the frame, the cables for the remote and the display even run inside the handlebars.
Sporty geometry
In both frame shapes, the geometry of the Orbea Kemen is quite sporty: With its rather slack steering angle, you should be happy about a very good directional stability, the seating position tends to be stretched rather than upright with a moderately long top tube.

Fully-fledged Shimano EP8 and permanently integrated 540 Wh battery
When it comes to the drive, the Kemen and Kemen SUV rely on a full-fledged Shimano EP8 motor and a 540 Wh battery that is firmly integrated into the down tube. In contrast to the original run, you get the "standard software" from Shimano with the full 85 Nm of torque. On the sporty first run, however, the power of the motor is limited to 60 Nm by Orbea's own RS software.
When it comes to the battery, Orbea makes a compromise that will not be met with approval everywhere. On the one hand, the 540 Wh energy storage is extremely light and compact, and the down tube is correspondingly slim. On the other hand, unfortunately, it cannot be removed for charging, so it is practically permanently integrated - a socket in the garage or in the bicycle cellar is therefore almost mandatory. If the already very good ranges with the integrated 540 Wh are not enough, you can use the optional range extender, which contributes a further 252 Wh and can be easily attached to the holes for the bottle holder.
Orbea Kemen: models and trim levels
Both the Kemen and the Kemen SUV will be available in two trim levels at launch. Both are also available with a classic diamond or trapezoidal frame. All equipment variants have the high-quality aluminum frame, the drive system and the battery in common. In addition, they are all equipped with a fixed lighting system including brake light, stable side stand, mudguards and luggage rack. However, the latter differ in their design and orientation depending on whether you opt for the SUV variant. Also nice: All models come with the particularly durable Linkglide circuits from Shimano.
Kemen and Kemen SUV - the differences
The decisive equipment differences between Kemen and Kemen SUV can be found in the attachments - i.e. mudguards and luggage racks - and in the tires. While everything on the regular Kemen is designed for use on asphalt and everyday life, the SUV variant lives up to its name. The narrow and slightly longer mudguards on the core give way to significantly wider mudguards on the SUV, under which there are in turn tires with a much coarser profile. The slim luggage rack on the Kemen looks good, but has to admit defeat in terms of payload and variability of the variant on the Kemen SUV. The payload increases from a decent 18 kg to a very good 27 kg (also for a child seat without any problems), and the carrier on the Kemen SUV is compatible with the MIK HD or Ortlieb QL3.1 standard.
