Cycling: Nils Politt became the new German champion at the Sauerland tour. Liane Lippert triumphed in the women's category.
Politt defeats Arndt
future will Nils Politt (Bora – hansgrohe) wear the German championship jersey. The 28-year-old has plans for the Sauerland Tour Nickias Arndt (DSM) enforced. Both covered many kilometers as a duo. Politt ultimately turned out to be the stronger, although he had previously done most of the work. Third place was secured despite a fall Simon Geschke (Cofidis). The best German professional cyclists had to cover around 210 kilometers from Arnsberg-Neheim to the Kahler Asten today in fine weather. Toxic climbs and spectacular descents ensured exciting racing events time and again.
Lippert celebrates second championship title
The women held their German Championship before the men. Liana Lippert (DSM) celebrates her second championship title after 2018. The 24-year-old won at the same time Ricarda Bauerfeind (Canyon SRAM), who conquered the time trial title in the U23 class the day before yesterday. The podium completes Nadine Gil (Sopela) before the also contemporaneous Clara Koppenburg (Cofidis). The women had to complete around 130 kilometers from Siedlinghausen to the Kahler Asten in their German championship and completed the distance before the men. Since the top four couldn't outrun each other on the final climb, the race was finally decided in the sprint. Before that, the strongest riders broke away together and built up a lead of over eight minutes.
No good pictures, little information
Unfortunately, the Federation of German Cyclists didn't really cover themselves in glory this year either. While other national championships are even broadcast abroad, German cycling fans once again have to do without a top broadcast. The website of the Sauerland Tour - on which the live stream should be visible - was always overloaded and could not be called up immediately after the start. The live stream on sportdeutschland.tv was available, but the viewers had to do without a lot of information. Without local knowledge, you didn't know where the riders were, how far it was to the destination and what the distances between the groups were. It was only thanks to the competent commentators that the overview was maintained to some extent.
