Cycling: Andreas Leknessund won the second stage of the Tour de Suisse and just missed out on the yellow jersey. The Norwegian prevailed as a soloist in front of the main group, having earlier made his escape with nine other breakaways.

Leknessund holds out as the only escape
With a strong solo has become Andreas Leknessund (DSM) secured victory on the second stage of the Tour de Suisse. The Norwegian was part of a ten-man breakaway group, from which he was able to break free a few kilometers before the end. While his former escape companions were still being caught, the 23-year-old celebrated his greatest success to date. Behind it sprinted Alberto Bettiol (EF Education – EasyPost) out of the main group Michael Matthews (BikeExchange – Jayco) was second but thought he had won. The second stage of the 85th Tour de Suisse led the riders over 198 kilometers from Küsnacht to Aesch. The climb up to Gempen was just as challenging as the Eichenberg and the final Challpass.
Six Swiss in the escape group
Ten breakaways formed the breakaway of the day, including the German Jonas slip (EF Education - EasyPost). However, the Swiss were particularly active in their home crowd. With Michael Schar (Ag2R – Citroën), Matteo Badilatti (Groupama – FDJ), Simon Pellaud (Trek - Segafredo), Joel Sutter (UAE), as well Claudia Imhof and Simon Vitzthum six Swiss from the national team went on the offensive. The leader's team Stephen Williams (Bahrain – Victorious) kept the gap within limits, so it was not clear for a long time whether a driver from the peloton or from the escape group would be able to snatch the day's win.
