The bike park “Großglockner Resort” opens its gates for mountain bikers on Saturday, June 25th. Around a month after the Bikepark Lienz, the second East Tyrolean bike park will also start operating. While the Bikepark Lienz focuses on classic downhill action, the Bikepark "Großglockner Resort" scores with spectacular views of the Alps and many opportunities for varied days with the mountain bike.
Located at the foot of the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3.798 meters, the bike park offers unique experiences. "The Glocknertrails are unique in their kind because they offer an all-round package for mountain bikers, from alpine terrain to trails in the forest to flowing jump trails," says Gunnar Kopf, who runs the Glockner Adventures & Glockner Bike School.
With the Gornerwald Trail, the Adler Trail and the Temblerfeld Trail, mountain bikers have three main trails available for the thrill of speed in the Alpine panorama, all of which have the finest single trail action ready. The Gornerwald Trail, the upper part of which is particularly appealing to experienced bikers, begins at an altitude of over 1.970 meters above sea level and meanders over almost 2,3 kilometers from the middle station over 400 meters in altitude down to Kals am Großglockner. The naturally designed Adlertrail with over 60 steep curves, waves and jumps over its 3,7 kilometers guarantees flow and a full view of the Großglockner massif. The Temblerfeld Trail is a 600 meter long jump line perfect for practicing and perfecting your jumping technique.
However, the resort offers much more variety: Around 60 kilometers of mountain bike trails, spread over two locations, appeal to mountain bikers of all levels. The five marked mountain bike tours "Kerer Alm" (10,3 km), "Cimaross-Goldriedrunde" (5,3 km), "Klaunzerberg" (24 km), "Gornerbergweg" (11,4 km) and "Kals- Matreier Törl" (1,8 km) focus on views and enjoyment, but can sometimes also be combined with downhill action on the single trails. Franz Theurl, chairman of the East Tyrol Tourist Association, knows that the Bikepark Großglockner Resort also makes the hearts of nature lovers beat faster: “The bike park has been spared from mass tourism. The nature is exceptional with many plant and animal species. And that only about 45 minutes from Lienz.”
Gunnar Knopf adds: “It is always an uplifting feeling to get off the gondola lift at 2400 meters when the weather is nice, when the Großglockner and the countless 3000m peaks shine at you. The alpine experience with the bike is euphoric.”
With its two bike parks, the Lienz Bike Park and the Grossglockner Resort Bike Park, East Tyrol is a paradise for mountain bikers and nature lovers. The region also has a total of over 600 kilometers of marked mountain bike trails for all levels.
