Cycling: Georg Zimmermann definitely enriched last year's Deutschland Tour with his attacks. At that time it was enough for fifth place in the overall standings. The 24-year-old wants more this year. Velomotion spoke to him on the sidelines of the tour.

Last year you finished fifth in the Deutschland Tour. What are you expecting this time?
George Zimmerman: Yes, so I'm hot. I'm motivated and I did my training after the Tour de France. So everything fits.
You attacked a lot last year. Will you wait until the Schauinsland stage this time?
You have to stay careful. The Deutschland Tour is only five days long. The Schauinsland is now not super steep. So I think it's the little things that count and maybe you should get a little head start somewhere on the other three stages. It would be ideal to be unscathed at the Schauinsland and gain another ten to twenty seconds on another stage.
You have already ridden the Tour de France twice and have therefore already gained a lot of experience. Where will your development take you?
I think races like the Deutschland Tour suit me quite well and that's why I'm particularly motivated here.
What goals are you pursuing after the Germany Tour?
After that I'm going to Canada to compete in the two one-day races. I'm also on the long list of the German Cyclists Association for the World Championships, so there are still a few highlights. In October, of course, the Lombardy Tour is also on the agenda. It remains exciting until the last race.
What advice do you have for aspiring young talents who dream of turning pro one day?
Never lose the fun of sport.
