Wheel EM: Reusser & Bissegger celebrate Swiss party in time trial

August 18, 2022 by Michael Behringer

Bissegger Reusser European Time Trial Championship

Cycling: The European champions in time trials will also come from Switzerland in 2022. While Marlen Reusser was able to prevail again in the women's category, Stefan Bissegger dethroned compatriot Stefan Küng in the men's category.

Reusser WINS ahead of Van Dijk

Again has itself Marlene Reusser secured the gold medal in the individual time trial of the European Championships. After 24 kilometers in Fürstenfeldbruck, the Swiss won by six and 28 seconds respectively in front of the two Dutch women ellen van dijk and Riejanne Markus. The Austrian Anna kiesenhofer finished fifth. Lisa Brennauer was twelfth in her last individual time trial.

Marlene Reusser:
“I am very happy about this gold medal. I am very thankful for the people who helped me with my aerodynamics. I've had a new attachment on my time trial bike since this spring. This bike is very fast, I noticed that today. The win isn't just mine, it's real teamwork.”

Bissegger defeats Küng and Ganna

The men's EM individual time trial was even tighter than the women's. But who in the end the world champion Filippo Gana by six seconds and the European champion Stefan Kung lags behind by less than a second, has really earned the European Championship title. Stephen Bissegger completed the 24-kilometer course with start and finish in Fürstenfeldbruck in a time of 27:06. After Stefan Küng has won two titles, a Swiss will also be at the top of the podium in 2022. Stefan Bissegger thus saves his rather messed-up year so far. At the Tour de France he was still unlucky when he fell in the opening time trial and had to struggle with technical problems in the final time trial. The best German was Miguel Heidemann in 16th place. Max Walscheid was unlucky as he fell and therefore had no chance.

Stephen Bissegger:
"I'm sorry for Stefan Küng that it was so close."
