Adelheid Morath and Leonardo Paez take the 2022 crown: Kronplatz King with a new royal couple

September 4, 2022 by Andrew Waldera

MTB cycling: Every year since 2016, 800 mountain bikers have been fighting for the coveted title of Kronplatz Queen and Kronplatz King. Adelheid Morath (GER) and Leon Hector Leonardo Paez (COL) won the long distance of the sixth edition with 64 kilometers and 3.150 meters in altitude.

The Kronplatz King MTB marathon, which has been taking place since 2016 and starts in St. Vigil, offers two routes of different lengths. In addition to the long distance with 64 kilometers and 3.150 meters in altitude, there is also the shorter Prince Classic variant with over 49 kilometers and just over 2.000 meters in altitude. Regardless of the route chosen, many participants are not just concerned with winning the day, but with important points for the Marathon-Man Europe, a marathon racing series in Europe. The finish of the Kronplatz King marks the 2.275 meter high Kronplatz.

The women's long distance was won by Adelheid Morath, who had everything under control from the start in changeable conditions. With a lead of more than 17 minutes, the German clearly relegated her closest pursuers Burato Chiara and Fasolis Costanza from Italy. After a tense showdown with numerous changes in the lead, Leonardo Paez from Colombia came out on top in the men's event. Aleksei Medvedev and Daniele Mensi finished second and third. In the end, the Italian Lorena Zoccabei and the Austrian Simon Schupfer were convincing at the Prince Classic.
