Cycling: The World Cycling Championships in Wollongong has its first sensation. Tobias Foss surprisingly won World Championship gold in the elite time trial. The Norwegian relegated the Swiss Stefan Küng and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel to silver and bronze respectively. In the women's race, Ellen van Dijk triumphed for the third time. The German Ricarda Bauernfeind is happy about bronze in the U23 class and thus gives the BDR the first medal.
Foss still intercepts Küng
That Tobias Foss is a good time trialist, we have known for quite some time. But nobody would have expected that the Norwegian would become the new time trial world champion. After all, the 25-year-old has yet to win a single WorldTour race in his career. Today, however, the time had come in Wollongong, Australia. Once again became a tragic figure Stefan Kung. The Swiss – who is still waiting for his first world title – was relatively well ahead of Foss in all split times. In the end, however, he should be missing three seconds. Bronze went to the Belgian after 34,2 kilometers Remco Evenepoel, who won the Vuelta a Espana just a week ago. Might be a bit disappointed Philippo Ganna. The Italian title defender was only seventh. The Germans Nickias Arndt and Miguel Heideman finished the World Championship time trial in 16th and 20th place.
His reaction says it all

Van Dijk wins gold, Reusser bronze
It was chosen for the third time ellen van dijk to the time trial world champion. The Dutchwoman was 12 seconds faster than the local hero in Wollongong Grace Brown. The Australian had not expected silver and was therefore happy with second place. Drove 41 seconds back Marlene Reusser from Switzerland in third place. The Austrian Anna kiesenhofer became tenth. Mike Kroeger was the best German twelfth.
Bauernfeind gives the BDR the first medal
In the U23 class, the Italian provided Vittoria Guazzini for a favorite win. Silver went to the Dutchwoman with a clear deficit of 1:48 Shirin van Anrooij. 2:17 behind was the German Ricarda Bauerfeind counted, which was presented with the bronze medal and thus recorded the first success for the BDR. Behind them, the distances became clear. Tenth place is already almost 13 minutes behind.
