The faithful helper from Austria
Marco Haller has been an integral part of the peloton for years. As a reliable helper to Katusha, Bahrain – Victorious and Bora – hansgrohe, he has contested the Tour de France seven times and the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a Espana once each. We - and especially the team bosses and teammates - have known about its value for years. But we all almost forgot that Marco Haller can also win races at WorldTour level. In 2012 he won the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing. To date, this was his only success in the highest class of cycling. Until August 21, 2022.
Marco Haller uses the right moment
He also started as a helper at the BEMER Cyclassics – formerly known as Hamburg Cyclassics. However, when he broke away from the peloton a few kilometers from the finish together with his teammate Patrick Konrad, Wout van Aert and two other drivers, his hour came. He started the sprint just as Wout van Aert looked back the wrong way. Haller scurried past - and successfully pulled the thing through to the finish line. After that, emotions burst out of him. And the whole cycling world rejoiced with him.
