Bicycle tool test: The Katana Tools TC-2 tool case stands out due to its very compact size. Despite the small dimensions, the hard case contains an amazingly large selection of tools. The price is just as tempting: the set is available for just under 85 euros. A bargain that is worth it – or rather not?!
General information about the manufacturer
Katana Tools, a new name, has entered the hotly contested market for bicycle accessories. In addition to a large range of components and tools, the brand, which is still quite young, also offers wearing parts for everything to do with bicycles. Katana Tools works with various producers and developers in this regard. The focus of the cooperation is the endeavor to be able to offer the end customer good quality at an affordable price.
Katana Tools TC-2 Tool Case: First Impression
The case, equipped with metal fasteners, is one of the very compact designs in our bicycle tool test. Style and design are already known from other models. The plastic fitting inside the case reliably keeps the tools in place. Some tools, such as the Allen key set or the chain lock pliers, on the other hand, roll around uncontrollably in two larger recesses. A foam insert serves as a separation between the two halves of the case. This is extremely imprecisely cut and protrudes beyond the inner recess. Crushing when closing the case is therefore inevitable.
Processing and feel
The tool can be removed easily and easily - however, this statement does not apply across the board. In order to get to the tools located in the lower recesses, the tools above must first be removed. This is really annoying, especially when it comes to important bicycle tools such as Allen keys. The quality of most of the tools is good according to the price and the rubberized handles ensure a very comfortable work. The chain lock pliers are a mini version, the size of which is more reminiscent of children's toys. Quite the opposite are the extra-long tire levers, which sit comfortably in the hand and allow good use of force.
Which repairs are possible and can the tool convince in use?
In terms of selection, the Katana Tools TC-2 tool case is quite convincing. The buyer receives a decent selection of useful bicycle tools for just under 85 euros. Most standard repairs on the bike can be carried out well with this set. Cone wrenches can be found here as well as the most common Allen wrenches or a chainring wrench. Even a chain gauge and a repair kit with chain locks and self-adhesive patches have been thought of. You won't find a wider range of Torx keys.
