Frog Bikes raffle: Just in time for the start of the cycling season, Velomotion is giving away two great bikes for young riders: The Frog 53 makes kids from the age of five mobile in everyday life and free time, and the Frog MTB 69 from the age of ten can be used in the bike park or in the city forest . Now participate and win!
The best time for a new children's bike is - now! Of course, many young cyclists are out and about all year round, just like their parents. But when there is a growth spurt in November, nobody really thinks of buying a bigger bike. It's better to wait a few months until the beginning of spring, when cycling is really fun again and the weather doesn't affect the new material so much. And so it's probably no wonder that Easter was once considered the ideal time for a new children's bike.
Frog Bikes: from city bikes to track bikes
When the rabbit brings a Frog Bike, the offspring have reason to cheer. Although the British manufacturer now also has city bikes in its range, it specializes primarily in sporting material. Self track bikes for primary school children there is from Frog, which is probably due to the popularity of track cycling in England.
The Brits are among the pioneers of a type of children's bike called "Hybrid Bike" in their program. These are lightweight non-road bikes with easy-to-use 1x derailleur gears reminiscent of mountain bikes without suspension and are quite versatile. With the satchel on your back and battery lights you can use it to go to school; its easy running makes it suitable for longer day trips with the family and last but not least for the first detours into the countryside.
Frog offers the hybrid bikes in six variants with wheel sizes of 20, 24 and 26 inches - a spectrum that ranges from preschool children to older teenagers. Each wheel is named by a number – Frog 53, 61, 62, 69, 73 and 78 – which roughly corresponds to the mean inseam that each wheel is properly sized for. That's pretty practical, because you only have to measure your child briefly and then you know exactly which Frog Bike fits.
That's all you need to know about the hybrid bikes, because they are all equipped the same: with eight-speed derailleur gears, V-brakes and lightweight attachments, so that even the largest model weighs only ten kilos with pedals, according to the manufacturer, and the smallest hardly more than eight . The all-rounders are also quite similar in price, which ranges from 565 euros for the 20-inch model to 635 euros for the largest 26-inch model - fairly realistic sums, each of which is offset by a decent resale value.
Children's MTBs with adapted air suspension forks
Some time ago, Frog added real mountain bikes to the hybrid bikes, which are available in three sizes (MTB 62,69,72, 15, 11) for children between eight and about 40 years of age. All three models deliver exactly what MTBs for young riders need to be able to do: At a good eleven kilos with pedals, they are initially quite light; with a short gear ratio (nine-speed wreath 32-2.1 teeth + XNUMX chain ring) tailored to real mountain biking, where there are sometimes steep uphills or difficult terrain. All models are equipped with XNUMX-inch wide tires, which offer a sufficiently large volume in relation to the rider's weight.
Of course, a suspension fork is a must for serious off-road use, but extremely simple material is often used, especially on children's bikes - heavy steel spring forks that cannot be adjusted and only respond inadequately to the low rider weight. Frog does it right and specifies air suspension forks with 24 and 26 mm travel for the 65-inch model as well as for the two 100-inch models. By changing the air pressure, these forks can be adjusted exactly to the body weight of young bikers, they also offer effective damping that regulates rebound, and they can be blocked with the lockout lever - for example when out of the saddle or on asphalt. Last but not least, the three Frog MTBs are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes - these are also a must on real mountain bikes.
Again, all three models cost about the same - 1.045, 1.080 and 1.085 euros. Here, too, one can speak of good value for money; it is clear that such (and significantly higher) sums are always due for a real mountain bike.
Win one of two new Frog Bikes now
But with a bit of luck, the Frog MTB doesn't have to cost anything, and neither does the Frog 53: Velomotion is giving away a copy of both bikes, and anyone who wants to participate just has to answer our prize question correctly:
