Leeze AC 25 Disc EVO WSTO: Lightweight all-rounder for off-road and on-road

March 21, 2023 by Caspar Gebel

Leeze AC 25 Disc

Leeze AC 25 Disc EVO WSTO: The very light all-rounder looks filigree, but proves to be extremely stiff and solid off-road. On top of that, it's fairly cheap.

Leeze already offered super-light aluminum wheels years ago, such as the AC 25 with just 1.330 grams. The wheel set for rim brakes with an internal width of only 16 mm would of course be difficult to convey today - so one is all the more pleased about a contemporary alternative, the can still be called super light at 1.430 grams. The AC 25 Disc EVO WSTO is of course designed for disc brakes, with an inner width of 22 mm also for wide tires from 28 mm, which can of course be mounted tubeless. This means that it fits very well on the racing bike when it comes to the lowest possible weight; however, Leeze also expressly suggests gravel or cross use.

Leeze AC 25 Disc – Agile and reliable on cross-country bikes

Will the graceful wheelset do it? In our experience yes. After problem-free tire mounting, the AC 25 Disc pleases on cross-country bikes with what feels like optimal acceleration, with sharp braking manoeuvres, hard acceleration and abrupt changes of direction with solid rigidity. The tires are also tight without the dreaded "burping", i.e. loss of air during extreme driving manoeuvres; the very low weight is also helpful when carrying it in cross-country races. The seemingly filigree structure, each with 21 spokes in a 2:1 pattern, has proven its worth: 14 triple-crossed tension spokes are mounted on the brake side at the front and on the sprocket side at the rear; the seven spokes on the other side are aligned radially.

Light, stable and versatile

"WSTO" means "weight - stiffness - tire fit - optimized" and that definitely applies to the AC 25 Disc. Of course, the focus is not on aerodynamics, although Leeze also uses flat spokes for this wheel set. At 599 euros, these wheels are also optimized in terms of “price-to-weight ratio”, although with Leeze it is also much easier: The identically constructed CC 25 Gravel EVO WSTO with its carbon rims is almost 200 grams lighter, but also 800 grams euros more expensive. Which again draws attention to how much wheel you get for your money with the AC 25 Disc.

An internal width of 22 mm is a good compromise, since narrow racing tires and medium-wide gravel tires can be fitted here.
Of course, aerodynamic feats are not necessarily to be expected from the flat rims.
