Cycling: Adam Yates has won the king's stage of the Tour de Romandie. After 161,6 kilometers from Sion up to the Thyon ski area, the Brit was able to prevail ahead of Frenchman Thibaut Pinot and Italian Damiano Caruso.
Yates takes the overall lead from teammate Ayuso
On the rain-soaked road, the first mountain finish of this year's Tour de Romandie Adam Yates (UAE) grabbed the day's win. In the final climb, the Brit was able to break away from the group of favorites and pull through to the finish line as a soloist. Previously, an increase in pace by Dutch team DSM meant that Leader Juan Ayuso (UAE) could no longer follow. So his teammate Yates jumped into the breach. He is now not only happy about the stage win, but also about the yellow jersey. In the overall standings, he is now 19 seconds ahead of the American Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar). Since tomorrow's final stage to Geneva will probably not provoke any more time gaps, the top 10 in the overall standings should be there.
