Cycling: The tenth stage of the Giro d'Italia had it all. Quite apart from the numerous tasks and falls, we were offered an exciting race on a rain-soaked track. Ultimately, the section ends with a breakaway victory for Magnus Cort.
Magnus Cort braves the bad weather
What a lousy weather at Giro d'Italia. It rained almost the entire day today. You can really feel sorry for the cycling pros. Nevertheless, they offered us a first-class and exciting race, which ultimately ended in a breakaway victory in Viareggio. Magnus Court (EF Education – EasyPost) has once again done what it is known for. The Dane was part of an initially four-man escape group that finally arrived with three men on the home stretch. There he gave his opponents no chance. The Dane has thus won a stage in all three major national tours. One of the losers of the day Jay Vine (UAE), who lost a lot of time after a crash.
Giro d'Italia: Evenepoel, Uran & Küng are out
Rarely has there been such an eventful rest day as yesterday's Monday at the Giro d'Italia. There were positive corona tests and numerous tasks. The most notable person is of course Leader Remco Evenepoel (Soudal - Quick Step). The Belgian world champion has as well as the Colombian Rigoberto Urán (EF Education – EasyPost) submitted a positive corona test. According to the current rules, you don't have to leave the tour, but for health reasons all teams will take this route if the worst comes to the worst. Also gave up on the rest day Sven Erik Bystrom (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty), Dominic Pozzo alive (Israel – Premier Tech), Oscar Riesebeek (Alpecin – Deceuninck), Purely Taaramäe (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty), Mads Würtz Schmidt (Israel – Premier Tech), Callum Scottson (Jayco-AlUla) and Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ).

Bad weather: The stage will still not be shortened
Furthermore, the pros at the Giro d'Italia do not have good conditions. The weather was so bad this afternoon that a shortening of the stage had to be discussed. With sub-zero temperatures at the highest point of the day, riders feared too many serious falls. But the race organization remained tough. From Scandiano to Viareggio, the full 196 kilometers had to be covered. This was particularly bitter for Alexander Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe). The Russian team captain has not been feeling well since yesterday's rest day. Already at the beginning of the stage he was left behind by the peloton. Together with one or the other sprinter he fought for a long time before he finally gave up. Meanwhile, the breakaway group of the day formed at the front. Derek Gee (Israel – Premier Tech), Alessandro De Marchi (Jayco – AlUla), Magnus Court (EF Education – EasyPost) and David Bais (Eolo – Kometa) gained a lead of several minutes.
Davide Bais extends his lead in the mountains classification
In the main field, the Movistar team presented itself at the top for the first time at this year's Giro d'Italia. Although her sprinter Fernando Gaviria had been inferior in mass arrivals so far, the Spanish team seemed to continue to believe in the Colombian. The Dutch team DSM also joined in the tracking work. The lead quartet had a lead of just under four minutes at the summit of the Passo delle Radici. David Bais (Eolo – Kometa) got the full 18 points there, extending his lead in the mountains classification. However, the Italian then had problems following on the descent. He wasn't willing to take that risk on a wet road. Accordingly, he had no chance of getting the mountain points at Monteperpoli afterwards.

Bahrain - Victorious launches a full-scale attack
As expected, things in the peloton were a little quieter on the long descent. At least at the beginning, because all of a sudden the team Bahrain – Victorious blew the big attack. Your ranking driver Damian Caruso broke away along with his teammates Andrea Pasqualon and sprinters JonathanMilan. Ineos Grenadiers became the Frenchman to look after the three Italians Pavel Shivakov sent along. Also Lorenzo Rota (Intermarché – Circus – Wanty) was there. However, after Milan fell, the large-scale attack was called off again. As a result, the lead of the original outliers has decreased significantly. Only just over two minutes remained after the second and last climb. But at the same time the question arose: Which team can bring the breakaway trio back at all?
Jay Vine falls and loses a lot of time
On the rain-soaked road, there were of course numerous falls again today. Among other things, it also has Jay Vine (UAE) caught. The Australian fell in a left-hand corner going downhill. As a result, he fell back from the peloton and had to be supported by his teammates. But the pace in the peloton was too high. Jay Vine was to lose several minutes that day. Astana in particular ensured the high pace in the peloton Mark Cavendish, Soudal – Quick Step for David Ballerini and Trek – Segafredo for Mads Pedersen. The lead of the trio initially fell to 40 seconds. After that, however, the sprinters had no more helpers at their side - and the trio actually came through.
