Cavendish wins in Rome

The 106th Giro d'Italia ended this Sunday in Rome. After the three-week ordeal with mostly bad weather, many corona-related tasks and great sporting achievements, the professionals can celebrate tonight in Italy's capital. Before that, however, a daily winner was chosen and another special story was written. Mark Cavendish (Astana) has a bunch sprint ahead Alex Kirsch (Trek – Segafredo) and Filippo Fiorelli (Green Project - Bardiani - CSF - Faizanè) can prevail. The Brit thus celebrated his 17th stage win in his last participation in the Giro d'Italia. At 38 years and 7 days he is the oldest day's victory in the Tour of Italy. That also made it possible Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). The second overall started the sprint for his compatriot, so to speak, although he drives in a different team. The tour ended bitterly for Pascal Ackermann (UAE). The German fell a few meters before the line in the final sprint.

Roglic celebrates overall victory

As usual - despite the small time difference of only eleven seconds - there were no more attacks today on the final day of a Grand Tour. Celebrate with it Primois Roglic (Jumbo – Visma) his first overall victory at the Giro d'Italia. The Slovenian has already won the Vuelta a Espana several times. Next to him on the podium are the Brits Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and the Portuguese Joao almeida (UAE), who is also honored as the best young professional. About the blue jersey of the best mountaineer is allowed Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ) are happy. The Frenchman contested his last Giro d'Italia in the past three weeks. He will retire at the end of the season. The sprint score is on jonathan milan (Bahrain-Victorious). Bahrain – Victorious was awarded as the best team. Lennard Kamna (Bora – hansgrohe) finishes the Tour of Italy in ninth place overall.
