Bull's Sonic Evo SX: New E-MTB with Bosch SX drive

Product news / E-MTB: With the Bulls Sonic Evo (AM) SX, the manufacturer from Cologne is presenting one of the first E-MTBs with the new Bosch Performance Line SX drive. In addition to the trail fully with 140mm travel, there is also a light carbon hardtail, optionally with full equipment.

After Bosch recently lifted the curtain on the new SX drive, the first manufacturers are presenting bikes equipped with the lightweight motor. Among them are Bulls, who are adding a new model to their popular Sonic range. The Bulls Sonic Evo SX will be available as a full-suspension AM version with 140mm at the front and 130mm at the rear, as a sporty trail hardtail with 120mm of travel and a fully equipped model for everyday use will also be available.

Bulls Sonic Evo AM SX: Lightweight trail bike with carbon frame and 140/130mm travel

The Bulls Sonic Evo AM SX is the sportiest representative of the new SX models and should fit quite well into the category "trail bike": This is supported by the spring travel of 130mm at the rear and 140mm at the fork, but also the versatile, quite progressive geometry that promises a lot of fun on the trail. The full carbon frame has been optimized for low weight, for example the 1,8 inch head tube known from other Sonic E-MTBs has been omitted. The weight of the new Bosch SX E-MTBs should be between 17,4 kg (Sonic Evo AM SX 1) and 16,1 kg (Sonic Evo AM SX-I).

What is absolutely positive is that, despite the lightweight construction of the frame, Bulls decided to integrate the new CompactTube 400 battery in such a way that it can be easily removed from the down tube at an angle to the side. You don't even have to do without a lock. Overall, the motor integration is very appealing at first glance, despite the slightly larger dimensions of the Bosch SX motor compared to other Light Assist drives. Incidentally, the new range extender with a capacity of 250 Wh can be mounted under the top tube.

Model variants from 5.999 euros

The Sonic Evo AM SX will be available in four models, including a women's model. The price of the Sonic Evo AM SX 1 starts at 5.999 euros, the top model AM SX-I costs almost 10.000 euros. They all have the light carbon frame in common - so the basis is right and there is nothing standing in the way of upgrading the components after purchase. When choosing the components, it becomes clear here and there that the Cologne manufacturer wanted to save as much weight as possible; We can understand the decisions in many respects, but the tires are a bit of a headache: With the Schwalbe Wicked Will at the rear and the Nobby Nic at the front, mine doesn't have all that lavish reserves for off-road use.

Bulls Sonic Evo SX: Sporty hardtail with carbon frame

In addition to the full-suspension AM models, Bulls also offers several hardtail models with the new SX drive. Here, too, the frame is made of carbon, which should lead to exciting weights. The approach of the Sonic Evo SX is also appealing: With 120mm of spring travel and a geometry that is definitely suitable for trails, excursions on moderate trails are also possible here.

Also available with full equipment

The four equipment variants include two basic models, a women's model and the so-called "Dakar" variant with equipment suitable for everyday use, including luggage rack, lighting system and side stand. The e-hardtail starts at 4.999 euros
