Casco Speedairo 2 RS under test: Aero helmet with more draft

July 16, 2023 by Florian Nowak

Test: A number of years ago, the Casco Speedairo made headlines with a hitherto unconventional concept. With the Speedairo, the helmet specialist from Germany brought a helmet onto the road that, based on its other products from winter sports, riding and cycling, was supposed to offer a complete protection system for the entire head. The idea was to optimize the helmet for road cycling and still equip it with a visor so that the riders do not have to accept a restriction in their field of vision. With the Casco Speedairo 2 RS we have tested the successor of the successful model.

As one of the few aero road helmets, the Casco Speedairo 2 RS offers a visor as standard. A special feature is that the visor automatically adapts to the external light situation and thus ensures a clear view and better perspective even in difficult visibility conditions. In addition, glasses wearers in particular get their money's worth with this system, because you can simply wear normal corrective glasses under the visor and still get tinted "glasses". This saves you from uncomfortable contact lenses or ground sports glasses, which are usually very expensive.

But even so, the visor does a great job, because thanks to the large visor unit, the eyes do not water even without glasses underneath and are constantly protected from the sun. In addition, the visor never fogged up in our test, even when sweating heavily. If it gets too warm under the visor when going uphill or you want to touch your face, you can easily fold it up and back again. According to the manufacturer, the ventilation properties were particularly improved in comparison to the previous model during the development of the Casco Speedairo 2 RS, which are often neglected in aerodynamic helmet models. Even with the current summer temperatures, we didn't notice any disadvantages compared to "more open" helmet models in terms of ventilation and cooling.

Casco Speedairo 2 RS Features:

Cascofit network: Thanks to the Cascofit, the helmet no longer rests directly on the head, but on a kind of mesh inside the helmet, which on the one hand should better absorb the energy of a fall and on the other hand is a great advantage for ventilation, as there is more space for constant air flow between head and helmet is maintained.

Casco-Loc and Disc-fit Vario: These two features primarily serve the fit and adjustability of the Casco Speedairo. Here are a few ways to make every driver happy.

Vautron automatic visor: Thanks to the Vautron automatic system, the visor adapts to the external light conditions in a matter of seconds and goes dark and then light again. Perfect for changing light conditions or when driving in a tunnel. You can even ride with this visor at night because it is completely untinted.
