Lafay celebrates its greatest success

Yesterday already showed that he is in the form of his life. Today that was confirmed again. victor lafay (Cofidis) wins stage two of the Tour de France after a spirited solo attack just below the Devil's Rag. Previously, some attacks by Jumbo - Visma were already foiled to wout van aert to enable stage victory. But when the Frenchman got going, they just couldn't do anything about it. Van Aert was only second, which visibly annoyed him. Third place secured Tadej pogacar (UAE), who thus once again gained valuable bonus seconds against jonas vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) for themselves.

Pogacar wins the bonus sprint

When it went up the Jaizkibel about 20 kilometers from the finish, led Adam Yates (UAE) - the man in the yellow jersey - the favorite group. His twin brother attacked just before the crest Simon yates (Jayco-AlUla). Tadej pogacar (UAE) and jonas vingegaard (Jumbo – Visma) followed him. The Slovenian won the mountains classification and thus secured eight bonus seconds ahead of the Dane and the Brit. On the downhill, Vingegaard again refused to cooperate, so the chasing group was able to catch up again. Then tried among other things bilbao hair (Bahrain – Victorious) and Emmanuel Buchman (Bora – hansgrohe) with a solo attack. But the Jumbo - Visma team didn't want to let anyone go. victor lafay (Cofidis) but then they could no longer hold.

Powless defends his mountain jersey

Only three riders ventured into the breakaway on today's 209-kilometer stage from Vitoria-Gasteiz to San Sébastián. The Norwegian Edvald Boasson Hagen (TotalEnergies) tore with the Frenchman Remi Cavagna (Soudal – Quick-Step) and the American Neilson Powless (EF Education - EasyPost). After Cavagna was not able to take part surprisingly early on, the remaining duo defended themselves bravely. But up the Jaizkibel, Powless, the last fugitive from the group of favorites, was caught. After all: The American was able to collect points for the mountain jersey today and will therefore be allowed to wear it again tomorrow.
