Cycling: Liane Lippert won the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes. The German champion won the sprint of the severely depleted main field in Mauriac and thus celebrated the greatest success of her career. It is also the first victory of a German rider in the Tour de France Femmes.
Liane Lippert WINS in the pouring rain
Finally, finally, finally – one might say. Liana Lippert (Movistar) has finally paid off for all their strong performances over the past few months. The German champion had to settle for good positions behind the winners too often. Today she is at the top herself. On the 151,7 kilometer long second stage of the Tour de France Women leaves them in the sprint of a decimated peloton Lotte Kopeky (SD Worx – Protime) and Silvia Persian (UAE Team ADQ) behind.
Even the world champion is amazed
The section from Clermont-Ferrand to Mauriac was extremely bumpy. A total of six climbs had to be completed, with the last climb leading 3,4 kilometers up to the finish line and having an average gradient of 5,8 percent. The heavy rain made life even more difficult for the riders. But Liana Lippert kept cool and drove to her biggest success of her career. After crossing the finish line, there was even a teammate, world champion and defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten over for congratulations.

Lotte Kopecky won the start
The Tour de France Femmes started yesterday, Sunday. Starting and finishing in Clermont-Ferrand, the distance to be covered was 123,8 kilometers. And contrary to expectations, the first large gaps have already been realized. Lotte Kopeky (SD Worx – Protime) won by 41 seconds over her teammate Lorraine Wiebes (SD Worx – Protime) from the Netherlands. Liana Lippert (Movistar) crossed the finish line in 43th, losing XNUMX seconds. After today's victory, the German champion is in second place overall. A good start in the Tour de France Women - and that despite the fact that she was with her captain with almost 50 kilometers to go Annemiek van Vleuten fell.
