Cycling: Antonia Niedermaier won gold for Germany in the U23 class time trial. Chloe Dygert from the USA can look forward to the elite women. A drama took place around the Swiss Marlen Reusser.
Reusser gives up the race
She started the race as the top favorite but was unable to finish the time trial. The Swiss woman Marlene Reusser got off her bike prematurely – probably due to back pain. She was already behind in the split times Chloe Dygert. The American eventually won the 36,2-kilometer race against the clock with a lead of six seconds over the Australian Grace Brown. The Austrian created a sensation Christina Schweinberger, who unexpectedly won bronze.
Niedermaier races to the world title
The medals in the U23 class were also awarded in the elite women's time trial. Antonia Niedermaier was eleventh overall, but was the fastest in her age group. So the German can look forward to the world title. Cedrine Kerbaol from France won silver in front of the Belgian Julie De Wilde. The Australian was in the juniors Felicity Wilson-Haffenden successful. The 18-year-old won gold ahead of the Briton Izzy Sharp and the Italian Federica Venturelli. The two German representatives also presented themselves in good shape. Hannah Kunz and Pia Grunewald finished sixth and seventh respectively.
