Van der Poel wins as a soloist in Glasgow

An undulating profile, torrential rain and an hour-long disruption of protests. It really wasn't easy for the pros at the World Championship road race in Glasgow. After 271,1 kilometers from Edinburgh to the finish line in Glasgow, however, he was allowed to Mathieu van der Poel happy about the rainbow jersey. The Dutchman was able to free himself from his four companions with 22 kilometers to go and drive towards his next big victory as a soloist. And that despite the fact that he fell in a right-hand bend about 17 kilometers from the finish line and damaged his shoe. The pursuers came no closer. Van der Poel is thus crowned double world champion after winning the rainbow jersey in cyclocross in winter. Silver secured wout van aert from Belgium with an attack in the last kilometer. Bronze sprinted himself Tadej pogacar off Mads Pedersen.

Bettiol defends himself in vain

These world championships really had it all. It wasn't just the weather and the profile of the route that made it difficult for the pros, but also the pros themselves ensured an incredibly selective bike race. With more than 100 kilometers to go, the top favorites dared to go on the offensive. So it came early to decisive selections and many tasks. The race for gold, silver and bronze had started no later than 80 kilometers from the finish line, when the escapees were caught and the big players attacked each other several times. When there were still 40 kilometers to go, the Italian was there Alberto Bettiol as a soloist at the forefront. Behind them, a group of four formed around the Belgian Wout van Aert, the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel the Slovenes Tadej pogacar and the Danes Mads Pedersen. By this time the Germans had long since disappeared. Previously presented John Degenkolb however in good condition.
