Cycling: Remco Evenepoel won the 14th stage of the Vuelta a Espana and made an impressive comeback. The Belgian – who lost a lot of time yesterday – triumphed in Larra-Belagua as a breakaway.
Evenepoel also conquers the mountain jersey
Falling down – we already explain this to our children – is not a shame. Getting back up – that’s important. Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step), as the defending champion, was of course one of the top favorites for overall victory. But due to his collapse yesterday, the red jersey became a long way off. Today, however, the former world champion responded to this phase of weakness like a champion. Evenepoel sat down together Romain Bardet (DSM – Firmenich) and as a duo they kept all pursuers at a distance. Evenepoel also secured numerous mountain points on the 156,2 kilometers from Sauveterre-de-Béarn to Larra-Belagua. So the Belgian champion will start tomorrow in the mountain jersey. The favorites for overall victory crossed the finish line at the same time, so there was no further postponement.
