Cycling: The Dutch team Jumbo – Visma continues to dominate at the Vuelta a Espana. Primoz Roglic won the 17th section ahead of his teammates Jonas Vingegaard and Sepp Kuss. Nevertheless, many cycling fans and journalists do not speak positively about the team after the stage.
Jumbo – Visma makes heads shake
The Vuelta a Espana 2023 continues to shine in yellow and black. The 17th stage of the Tour of Spain was also firmly in the hands of the Dutch team Jumbo – Visma. Primois Roglic won the section ahead of his teammates jonas vingegaard and Sep kiss. However, how the whole thing came about on the 124,4 kilometer long stage from Ribadesella to Altu de L'Angliru leaves many fans and journalists shaking their heads.
Marc Soler's attack fizzles out
Was again Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step) the man of the day in the early stages. The Belgian attacked several times and finally got away with his sixth attack. He had his teammate with him, among others Mattia Cattaneo (Soudal – Quick-Step), who did most of the work, especially on the flat. The other companions – for example Lorenzo Germani (Groupama – FDJ) and Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R – Citroën) were shaken off before the penultimate climb. At the foot of the Alto del Cordal, Remco Evenepoel was alone. Behind it tried - once again with an absolute Harakiri command - Marc Soler (UAE) to reconnect all by myself. As expected, the Spaniard did not succeed. Even before the summit, sixth overall was put back by the peloton and finally passed through. There Bahrain - Victorious took over the tempo work, so that Evenepoel's lead fell drastically and the Jumbo - Visma team was decimated.
Evenepoel gives up his attempt
In the steep section of the Altu de L'Angliru there was Remco Evenepoel (Soudal – Quick-Step) finally stopped his venture. Attacked from the favorite group Romain Bardet (DSM – Firmenich). The Bahrain – Victorious team was still represented by five men and was by far the strongest team today. When the pace was increased again, the group of favorites exploded. After Alexander Vlasov (Bora – hansgrohe) was no longer able to ride, so was his teammate Cian Uijtdebroeks (Bora – hansgrohe) and Juan Ayuso (UAE), as well Joao almeida (UAE). Only Enric Mas Nicolau (Movistar) was initially able to follow the trio of Bahrain – Victorious and the three captains of Jumbo – Visma. But with 4,5 kilometers to go he also had to give up. The major battle between the two teams was on – at least for a short time.
Kiss loses time and continues to smile in red
Two kilometers before the finish line said goodbye Mikel Landa (Bahrain – Victorious) also the last man in his team's jersey. From then on, the three men from Jumbo – Visma were alone. As Sepp kuss The cycling fans were astonished that he could no longer hold the rear wheels of his teammates. Instead of slowing down and waiting, we pulled Primois Roglic and jonas vingegaard just keep going. In the end, the Slovenian can celebrate the day's victory. The Dane comes second. And the American completes the podium. Due to the small gaps, Sepp Kuss keeps his red jersey. But the lead is getting smaller and smaller. And the Jumbo – Visma team certainly didn’t make any friends today. Especially since Sepp Kuss celebrates his 29th birthday today.
