Cycling: Milan Vader won the fourth leg of the Gree Tour of Guangxi. The Dutchman left all the favorites behind on the queen stage and celebrated his first professional victory in road cycling.
Vader also takes overall leadership
On the fourth stage of the Gree Tour of Guangxi, the climbers were able to shine for the first time. After three sprint finishes in a row, the 161,4 kilometer section from Nanning to Nongla ended with a demanding climb. As expected, the sprinters were no longer able to keep up. Also the overall leader Dries de Bondt (Alpecin – Deceuninck) had to realize that he would have to give up his leader's jersey after just one day. Instead, knew Milan Vader (Jumbo – Visma). The Dutchman attacked on the final climb and left all of his opponents behind. The Frenchman ended up in the places behind him Remy Rochas (Cofidis) and the Brit Hugh Carthy (EF Education - EasyPost). Austria Felix Grossschartner (UAE) was fifth on the day. After his victory today, Milan Vader – who had a serious fall during the Tour of the Basque Country last year and was at times in danger of his life – is on the verge of overall victory.
