Top 10 Drivers 2023: 10th place – Giro stage win saves Pascal Ackermann’s season

31 October 2023 by Michael Behringer

Giro d'Italia Ackermann

Cycling: This year we will once again compile a top 10 ranking of German-speaking riders from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Pascal Ackermann made it into the top ten of the season.

Things continue to go downhill at Ackermann

By moving from Bora - hansgrohe to UAE Team Emirates at the beginning of 2022, Pascal Ackermann hoped for a reversal of the trend. Because after his top season in 2019, things went steadily downhill. The now 29-year-old German was unable to stop this development with his new team. If we look at the points achieved on ProCyclingStats.com or at the official UCI ranking, we see that from 2019 onwards Pascal Ackermann was able to score fewer and fewer points from year to year. The likeable Palatinate native still makes it into our top 10 ranking. His stage win at the Giro d'Italia saved him. On the eleventh section, Ackermann triumphed in the photo finish ahead of Jonathan Milan and Mark Cavendish.

New beginnings for Israel – Premier Tech

Another team change should finally bring about a turnaround for Pascal Ackermann. From UAE Team Emirates we now move on to Team Israel – Premier Tech. There he meets familiar faces. His two compatriots Michael Schwarzmann and Rick Zabel could form a strong sprint train for him. However, Ackermann is not sure of his position as the top sprinter in the team. With Oded Kogut, Jake Stewart, Corbin Strong and, above all, Ethan Vernon, there are four other fast men in the squad. However, if Pascal Ackermann finds his way back to his former strength, there will be no way around him. Maybe he can finally look forward to his first participation in the Tour de France.
