Cycling transfers: Movistar brings Nairo Quintana back

28 October 2023 by Michael Behringer

Quintana Nairo Movistar Cycling Transfers

Cycling Transfers: Nairo Quintana is back. The Colombian has signed a contract with Movistar for the coming season. He has already competed for the Spanish team for eight years.

Nairo Quintana has finally found a team

Long has Nairo Quintana looking for a new home. Now he has found her again in his old love. The Colombian was released by his French team Arkéa – Samsic towards the end of last season after a positive tramadol result was detected during the Tour de France. His search for a new team was unsuccessful. Quintana only competed in a single UCI race in 2023. At the National Championships he finished third. Now he has finally found a team for 2024. As he did from 2012 to 2019, he will pedal again for the Spanish team Movistar. In the blue jerseys he won, among other things, the Giro d'Italia 2014 and the Vuelta a Espana 2016.

Movistar team boss Eusebio Unzue:
“Nairo is a huge reinforcement for us. He is only 33 years old and still in good shape. I know this because he never stopped training. He also gets along well with Enric Mas and of course he will work for him in the Grand Tours. But he also gets the chance to show that he can still win himself.”

Nairo Quintana:
“I'm happy to be home again. It was a difficult year with many sleepless nights. There were many days when I had to make enormous sacrifices. But it was all worth it.”

We confirm that @NairoQuinCo will be part of the staff #MovistarTeam2024.
