Cycling: Fem van Empel and Michael Vanthourenhout secured the European title in Pontchâteau. The Dutchwoman won confidently and clearly as a soloist, while the Belgian had to fight until the last meter.
Vanthourenhout successfully defends his title
Michael Vanthourenhout can wear his European Championship jersey for another twelve months. The Belgian successfully defended his title in Pontchâteau from the Briton cameron mason and the Dutchman Lars van der Haar. Last year's winner didn't necessarily seem to be the fastest man on the course - but he was the most consistent. Without making a single mistake, he confidently fended off all attacks. Many of his competitors were faster than him at times, but then fell behind again due to their own weak phases, lack of concentration or falls. The Belgian Jente Michels can look forward to the title in the U23 class. The Frenchman is cheering for the juniors Aubin Sparfel.
World champion Van Empel also becomes European champion
The dominator of women's cyclocross has been around for quite some time Fem van Empel. The Dutchwoman is currently not only the reigning national champion and world champion, but now also the European champion. Already in the first round she was able to break away from her competitors and triumph as a soloist. This is the seventh time this season that she is celebrating after a solo ride in the seventh race. Her compatriots can get behind it Carmen Alvarado placeholder image and the Italian Sarah Casasola be happy about silver or bronze. The top favorite was crowned in the U23 class Zoe Backstedt from Great Britain to become European champion. The Frenchwoman won the juniors Celia Gery.
