45NRTH Nokken: The Minnesota brand 45NRTH knows about extreme winters. 45NRTH has developed the Nokken glove to combat winters dominated by icy polar air. This is designed for the temperature range from -3 to 7°C and uses quite thin insulation.
A mixture of merino wool and polyester is used as insulating material. The outer skin consists of a water- and wind-repellent softshell layer on the backhand and an AX Suede synthetic leather on the palm. Silicone prints on the thumb and index finger are intended to improve control of the brakes and gear levers. Another silicone print on the extended neoprene shaft is intended to prevent the jacket sleeve from slipping.
Soft and supple – thanks to Merino
When you hold the high-quality 45NRTH Nokken in your hands for the first time, you immediately notice that it feels very soft and comfortable. Everything inside also feels soft, and the noticeable seams on the fingers are not noticeable. The cut of the gloves also fits into the harmonious picture. However, the glove is slightly smaller in fit, so we recommend a size larger. The Nokken can be put on and taken off without much effort.
During use, the pleasant grip feeling on the handlebars remains, but at the expense of a direct grip feeling. Operating the switching elements and brake levers also works quite well in principle, but the glove tends to twist slightly on the fingers, which means that there is a seam between the finger and the lever or switch when operating the elements. The strength of the Nokken lies in its pleasant insulation, which provides reliable protection against wind and cold. We couldn't detect any defects during our test trips. The gloves can also withstand moderate drizzle or light rain. However, the Nokken is not designed for long-term wet conditions. Finally, it should be mentioned that the thumbs can be used as wiping fingers. But we miss reflectors, you won't find them on the 45NRTH Nokken.
