E-MTB / Test: The Flyer Goroc TR:X 8.63 XC should come very close to the idea of the perfect touring E-MTB. Comfortable, low-maintenance, with a powerful motor and optionally over 1.200 Wh battery capacity. You have to make a few compromises with the Pinion E-MTB.
Hardly any other product in recent years has caused as much of a stir on the e-bike and e-MTB market as the Pinion MGU. Mid-engine and transmission in one? Many bikers have been waiting for this. Flyer is installing this innovative drive unit on the new Goroc TR: Usually come with mudguards and lighting systems that are fully suitable for everyday use. Only the XC model we tested forgoes this and takes a slightly sportier course.

With its 130 mm of suspension travel, the bike is also well equipped for lighter off-road use, with the upright seating position and the side stand clearly showing where its center of gravity lies. A 700 Wh battery in the down tube of the carbon main frame supplies the powerful Pinion MGU with energy and can be easily removed from the side. If you want a longer range, you can use the optional additional battery to expand the total capacity by 535 Wh to over 1.200 Wh.
By eliminating the rear derailleur and cassette on the rear wheel, Flyer can also save the classic chain and instead install a low-maintenance carbon belt. The other components are solid: This applies to the Fox chassis with Fox 34 Rhythm at the front as well as the 4-piston Shimano XT brakes and the Mavic wheels. However, given the price of just under 9.000 euros, we would have liked a higher quality overall package, Pinion MGU or not.

The Flyer Goroc TR:X in practice
In today's world, when e-MTBs are becoming increasingly sporty, a bike with a clear touring focus like the Goroc TR:X has almost exotic status. However, in the first few meters on the bike you have to ask yourself why: thanks to the upright seating position, the comfortable chassis and comfortable contact points, the bike offers a very high level of comfort. The excellent switching behavior of the Pinion MGU also contributes to this, as it also pushes extremely hard when necessary - but unfortunately with a very clearly audible engine noise. Smaller off-road excursions are always possible, although real trails quickly show the limits of the Goroc TR:X. Neither the geometry nor the chassis and especially the tires have the appropriate reserves for this.
