Bosch eBike Update 2024: New features for the Smart System

February 13rd 2024 by Michael Faiss

Product news / E-Bike: Even before the start of the actual cycling season, Bosch is releasing a comprehensive update for the Smart System. In the Bosch eBike Update 2024 there are numerous new features, especially for the Kiox displays, and there is also a new support level specifically for S-Pedelecs.

Since the introduction of the smart system Bosch provides this with small and large updates on a regular basis. These days, the next wave of new features is coming, which can easily be installed on the e-bike at home using the current version of the eBike Flow app. The biggest innovations concern the Kiox 300 and 500 displays, which now have a dynamic mode, but the update is also worthwhile for all owners of an e-bike with a Bosch Smart System.

Bosch eBike Update 2024: Dynamic display on Kiox 300 and Kiox 500

The two current color displays in the Smart System, i.e. Kiox 300 and Kiox 500, will “think” for themselves in the future: depending on the driving situation, they can now independently adjust what is displayed if desired. On the uphill, for example, this is your own performance and that of the system, on the flat it is the distance covered and the remaining range and on the descent it is the speed. When you park your e-bike, a summary of the current tour is automatically displayed. The goal of the “dynamic display”: There is no need to switch gears while driving, so you can concentrate entirely on driving.

You can now put together your own driving modes

Over the years, the number of riding modes on Bosch eBikes has continued to increase: new support levels have been added, from eMTB mode to Tour+ and Auto. Until now, it has always been the responsibility of the manufacturers to install the appropriate modes on their respective bikes. The dealer could then change something, if at all. From now on you can use the eBike Flow app to choose which four support levels are available. Only the race mode remains reserved for the Performance Line CX Race motor.

Bosch eBike Update 2024: Heart rate monitor, performance data and altitude profile

What, that hasn't worked yet? That's probably what some people were thinking when they announced that you can now (finally) connect a heart rate monitor directly to the Bosch eBike Flow app. The Bluetooth protocol is used for this and the data is then transferred to the Kiox 300 or Kiox 500 via the smartphone and can be displayed while driving. The new performance evaluations take a similar approach: you can now see on a separate screen called “Power Distribution” what the ratio of the average own power to the power of the drive was. There are also now statistics about how much you were out and about in the respective support levels. Last but not least, Bosch is expanding the range of navigation functions. Here you can view an altitude profile of the current tour on the Kiox display or on your smartphone.

Limit mode for S-Pedelecs

In the future, there will be a new “limit mode” especially for S-Pedelecs, which limits the top speed to 25 km/h. It is ranked below Eco mode and dynamically regulates the support performance in a similar way to Auto mode. For example, better ranges can be achieved on the S-Pedelec and driving in the city becomes a little more relaxed. But be careful: the relevant legal regulations for S-Pedelecs also apply in this mode, so the cycle path generally remains taboo. A small downside: The new mode cannot be retrofitted by the user; it has to be configured that way by the bicycle manufacturer.
