Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel He is also looking forward to a new owner!
The British wheel manufacturer has been on the market since 2015. It was a time of change when disc brakes began to conquer racing bikes and cyclocross bikes, and the first real gravel bikes attracted attention. With an internal width of 19 mm, which anticipated the trend towards wider tires on racing bikes, Hunt was already innovative when it came to wheel sets for rim brakes. Assuming a Rimbrake racer, such wheel sets are still current - and still in the company's model range.
The Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel X-Wide is of course much more contemporary in 2024. The challenges that came with the combination of carbon rims and rim brakes are a thing of the past - with disc brakes, deceleration is perfect and the risk of an overheated rim is also eliminated. Last but not least, the rims could be made lighter, so that a wheelset like this with 35 mm deep semi-aero rims is just as light as the aluminum minimalist mentioned at the beginning.
Easy tire installation on the wide rims
However, with an internal width of 25 mm, the rims are perfectly tailored to tires up to 2,5 inches wide, although a racing tire that is almost 30 mm wide can also be mounted. The hookless design gives the tire a particularly high level of stability, which is particularly effective at lower air pressure. A 40 tire also harmonizes aerodynamically perfectly with the carbon rim, which measures 31 mm on the outside, and the manufacturer also sees this combination as ideal. Fitting the tires is not a problem; The air loss with tubeless is low, even after a long period of standstill.
Under 1.500 grams with rim tape
The front wheel weighs 684 grams on the editorial scales, the rear wheel weighs 815 grams; The tubeless rim tape is already glued in there. So 1.499 grams, which is pretty light for a wheelset in this category, and compared to wheelsets that are 300 or 400 grams heavier, the bike feels a bit more manageable. The (perceived) wheel stiffness is great, and the Hunt 35 Carbon Gravel
At 999 euros, this wheelset is very inexpensive for what is offered, and has a classic design with cranked spokes (v./h. 24/28) - just like many current wheelsets in this category. Hunt gives its users flat spokes to make the wheelset slightly more aerodynamic, as well as a very smooth-running six-pawl freewheel with an inimitable sound. And last but not least, it is the subtle branding that makes the Hunt wheels stand out from the crowd.
