Smartphone holder made in Germany: Busch+Müller Universal Cockpit Adapter 2.0

March 11, 2024 by Michael Wahl

Busch+Müller Universal Cockpit Adapter 2.0: The bicycle light specialists from Sauerland rely on sustainability and the production location in Germany. In addition to lights and mirrors, they also have a holder for mobile devices in their portfolio.

The Universal Cockpit Adapter 2.0 essentially consists of two fastening units. One for the mobile device and one for the handlebars. There is also a rubber pad and 2 tension straps for additional support in the packaging. The operating instructions consist of one sheet and are not really needed as the assembly of the holder is self-explanatory. When it comes to the material used, busch+müller relies on plastic, and the smartphone holder is also lined with foam.

Quick assembly without tools

Assembly can be completed in a very short time and without tools. All you have to do is put the tension strap around the handlebars and tighten it using the built-in locking mechanism. The universal holder is designed for devices with a width of 68 to 100 mm, a length of 120 to 160 mm, and a thickness of up to 13 mm. Inserting the device is a bit fiddly as you first have to press the unlocking buttons on the side and back. A central unlocking button would be much easier to handle here.

Depending on the smartphone, the side buttons are also pressed in by the holder and lead to unwanted operation. To ensure that the device does not accidentally come out of the holder, busch+müller has installed a red locking bar with which the unlocking buttons can be locked. Connecting the two mounting units requires some practice. First, the side buttons must be pressed before the mobile device unit is placed on top is.

Secure hold with a wobble factor

During our test drive we were able to do without the straps because our test device sat securely and firmly in the holder. Another positive thing to mention is that the device can be rotated by 90°. Unfortunately, the positive impressions left us when we left the street. On uneven forest floors or jerky gravel paths, the holder begins to wobble due to the previously praised 90° rotation mechanism. This makes it more difficult to read information while driving. Nevertheless, we didn't have the impression that the device could fall out.
